    USMC Career/MOS Roadmaps

Neither of my COs were WTIs either. IIRC, my first CO's highest qual was... section lead.

    Selection Week

It doesn't matter. Bloom where you're planted. You're an officer first, so take care of the people you work for. Develop a community with your squadron. If you do these things, I promise you'll be happy.

    VR Simulators at Whiting

Don't worry. Your ground job will make you feel all sorts of emotions before flying, so it's just tough, realistic training.

    All things MV-22 Osprey

Don't put New River. You'll spend plenty of time here while you go through 204, and if you end up loving it, someone will certainly trade places with you. You'll have the rest of your life to check out the NC coast, but Hawaii or Oki?

    All things MV-22 Osprey

We can't see any sort of external load from the cockpit, it's all crew chief commands. We also don't external all that often, and that's the first time I've seen a bambi bucket besides a figure in the NTRP.

    Which watch?

I have a quartz Hamilton and I'd love to upgrade to an automatic as a gift to myself after making aircraft commander. Does anyone have a good source for buying/selling used watches?

How does one change their username?

RR change to "Hurricane." Something about a big windstorm IVO NC.

    New deals for mil/vets

It's at the discretion of the individual store. The Lululemon in Savannah gave us 25% off all items, full price or sale.

USN When did Whiting Field get ILS?

I once got beautiful vectors on a PAR to 23. When I was landing 32. The final controller said 32 the whole time. Luckily it was VMC and we let it slide for "training." We were told "sorry Sir, the table just turned on us, we don't know what happened."

New Vortex Ring State Recovery Technique

It's a brownie points sort of thing to bring up in a brief when the discuss items include VRS. It's not "taught," as it isn't NATOPS, but you'll talk through the why and how of this technique and maybe the differences in altitude loss.

    Advice - Routes to OCS

I just finished TBS in September, and we had a law guy who wanted to drop his contract to go to IOC. Being a lawyer, he could argue his case well. The XO seemed to generally support him switching, and they needed guys in IOC at the time, but it didn't happen. So, as others have said, don't take...

Monster Marine OCS thread: stupid questions answered here!

We did play those games... Those sorts of things seem to be staff dependent - for example, our SIs didn't really do the whole "dump your pack on the parade deck, hold this up right now, hold this up right now" sorts of games, and since it was winter it didn't matter if our skivvie shirts were...

    UAV/UAS

I'm at TBS right now - UAS is it's own MOS and is competed for by ground Marines. Right now, the MOS involves managing a team of enlisted Marines who operate the aircraft, but eventually (once we acquire/develop armed drones) officers will be the pilots. You go to some Air Force schools to learn...

    OCC 218

Thanks. Yes, I believe the board's decision has been or is in the process of being passed down to individual OSOs. Keep in mind though that your particular OST might not tell you the decision right away (i.e. the first time I went before the boards, my OSO was out of town the day the decisions...

    OCC 218

I just talked to my OSO. Hopefully I'll see a few of you in January. If you didn't get selected, realize this is part of the screening process, and you shouldn't be deterred by the results of one selection board.

Date of Next Board/OCC for Air Contracts (2013/2014)

For what it's worth, our district CO also briefed us that OCC selections were getting (relatively) less competitive, but he emphasized that anyone who was asked to contracted was already at that competitive level. We were also told to expect to hear something roughly one week after the end of...

The timing for applying for PLC 2015

Go in tomorrow. There are so many factors beyond your control and so many potential things that could delay your progress that you need to be on the ball immediately. I had your same mindset in undergrad and waited until I finished a Master's degree to start applying, and have been waiting for...

    PLC Board for Air

+1, I have no statistical evidence for this at all, but I'd be willing to bet the medical process is responsible for more attrition than just about anything else. It's easy to get discouraged when you hear it'll take six months to get a flight physical back, so be proactive, learn what it is you...

Date of Next Board/OCC for Air Contracts (2013/2014)

We were just informed of the same thing - no AD air until next summer, at which point my OSO has one air slot.

    Methacholine Challenge

I searched for this specific question but couldn't find a thread that addressed it, but I apologize if it's already been answered. Like many other people, I had childhood asthma that resolved itself years ago and have been inhaler and symptom free for almost twenty years. However, I still need...
