    enlisted USAF to Navy OCS?

sammyswife, PS can wear medals/ribbons for which the Navy has an equivalent - Army/AF Achievement, National Defense, etc. I work with an Army Specialist who was just picked up as a Direct Commission Officer in the Naval Reserve and that's what our research indicated. IS1(SCW)

    Active Reservist Program Question

You need to talk to the person in personnel who handles what unit you are assigned to about this. I've seen a few people get paid to travel for drills in my 6 years in the USNR-R, but most have to pay those costs themselves. The USNR-R will pay for your lodging when you're from outside of 50...

    Asthma & ADD/ADHD

Hi Everyone, I know that, between all of the forums, a lot of discussion has circulated regarding Asthma and ADD/ADHD. Take a look at http://usmilitary.about.com/od/joiningthemilitary/a/asthma.htm and then talk to your recruiter if this concerns you. I just thought it would be good info...

    Reserve to Officer

Hi All, I think that being in the reserves can def. make you a more well-rounded OCS Applicant - I've known several people in my unit who have sought to do exactly that, myself included. Enlisted experience, especially in the same field as what you want to be commissioned in (i.e. Intel)...

    Graduate Student With Questions

maritimeman, Your MBA Background and GPA would be competitive. As far as Special Warfare, yes, it's very tough to get. But you should apply anyway and see how ti works out. Take a look at www.sealchallenge.navy.mil. Good luck, IS1(SCW)

    INTEL or CRYPTO....HELP!

Hi All, In my experience (as an enlisted IS these days), the enlisted do a lot of the analyst work and the officers supply the management support. As far as the Intel field becoming a bore...I believe that depends on the command you belong to because I know we stay sufficiently busy. IS1(SCW)

    How hard is OCS?

Pal. Guy, Not to be trite, but take a look around at old posts and that will give you an idea of what life at OCS is like - look and then ask questions...as the answers are throughout this forum. Also, take a look at www.usnavyocs.com. People succeed and people fail at OCS - it's all about...

    background check

gorby, Unless your friend has something to be concerned about in their background, it shouldn't be a big deal. It can take time to complete the background checks, especially if the person has lived in several different places. so I wouldn't sweat it yet. IS1(SCW)

    PRK Question

E6286, Getting PRK can really affect your vision and if you do so after you've signed you contract, it could NPQ you - it just depends on your healing. Vision doesn't typically change drastically, so you should be okay. (Although, I know it can change bc of personal experience.) Talk to your...

    Starting Over

La Tech, It depends on why you were not allowed to go in as a SNA. Getting accepted isn't solely scores and GPAs (although those are important factors) - your personal statement, recommendations, credentials, etc. also factor in. Talk to your recruiter. If you were NPQ for SNA, find out what...

    Shaving at OCS

Kevin, I'm not sure if OCS is different than the rest of the Navy or not with regard to this. But, I have known many African American men who've had the same issue with shaving. These people frequently had a "no-shave" chit that had been issued to them from medical. Again, I'm not sure if...

    What to do!!!

navy101, Your ability to be an NFO will depend on the problem. You can have quite a bit going on with your eys and still be eligible for NFO. Your vision must not be more than +/- 8.00 diopeters, you do not have to have depth perception and if you have a strabismus (lazy eye) it must not be...

BDCP questions- I'm a college student

Lax, It can't hurt to apply. Work hard this upcoming semester to raise your GPA. You may want to go ahead and contact a Navy Officer Recruiter, and see if you can take the ASTB and see where you score. If you do really well this can offset their view of your GPA. Athletics and...

    Professionally Recommended But Not Selected?

    BDCP'ers/active duty reporting to OCS

punac, I'd say that "to be safe" make sure you bring copies of everything. It should already be in your service record, but it will ease your stress in OCS to already have that stuff with you in the case you need it! This includes marriage/birth certs., transcripts, etc. Good luck! IS2(SCW)...

Another thing to keep in mind is stating HOW you can contribute to the greater Navy. Not just how you'll benefit, but how the Navy will benefit and how it works into your goals. i.e. - One goal of mine since I entered the Navy (or whatever if your a civilian or a prior) has been to earn my...

    Bad news for me...

savingthisone, No just because you can pass a commissioning physical does not mean you can be an NFO. I am able to pass the commissioning one, but was NPQ for NFO due to some eye-related issues. If I reapply it's Intel, Supply, etc. for me unless I get eye surgery. IS2(SCW)...

    Enlisted to Officer?
