Just learned that Im not a candidate for LASIK or PRK (thin corneas) and thus am medically ineligible for pilot. Absolute worst fucking feeling in the world. Anyway, if I get a pro rec, ill be declining the offer immediately. Good luck everyone.

ABOUT TO ENLIST BUT WOULD LIKE TO BE AN OFFICER FEEDBACK PLEASE

It is VERY difficult to break into the CIA/NSA. They recruit at my college and they were basically laughing people away unless they spoke a critical language (Arabic, Urdu, Mandarin, Russian) or were a quantitative major (math/stats/CS/engineering) with a high GPA. I can't speak to the military...

    Jan/Feb/Mar Boards

There are posters on AW who have gotten pro-rec'd with 2.6-2.7 GPAs (albeit with high ASTBs) so I don't think that would constitute "significant negative info." Maybe a low GPA coupled with a low ASTB would be significant enough? I was thinking that an instant red flag would be something like a...

PRK Waiver Denied- Post Commissioning Touchup Possible?

How did you pass the flight physical then, if you don't mind? I'm getting wavefront PRK in a couple weeks but my BCVA with contact lenses is about 20/15 to 20/12 so I'm hoping to see at worst 20/20 with no errors.

PRK Waiver Denied- Post Commissioning Touchup Possible?

If that's the case, then I'm guessing the reason for the OP's denied waiver is the haze, not the 20/40.

    ASTB Study Group

I have a couple questions. Will the scoring remain the same (1-9 for the AQR, PFAR, FOFAR and 20-80 for the OAR)? Also, do you know how scores from the new format will be interpreted relative to the current format? If an applicant has a score in the current format, then can he just keep that...

I haven't heard anything about specifics but I know that the Air Force equivalent of the ASTB has some kind of joystick section.

    Recommendation Letters

You seem to be under the impression that only those with LORs from high ranking officers have a shot. If you browse through the stats of pro-rec'ed applicants, you'll see that letters from professors, employers, or coaches will suffice. I would worry more about getting good grades at this stage.

    ASTB Study Group

They should be switching to the new format soon. That shouldn't change the way you approach studying for it though. Download the FAA PHAK and read it cover to cover. Most people who scored 8's and 9's (myself included) will tell you that the aeronautical section was a joke after reading the...

    Jan/Feb/Mar Boards

I had a job in college where the DD 370 was not applicable. My managers were older students who have long since graduated, making it impossible to get in contact with any of them to request a LOR. My OR and processor told me to just write an explanation to attach to my package. I still had...

    Jan/Feb/Mar Boards

I had everything complete at my NRD before the deadline. I'm guessing the request for clarification (regarding a DD 370) was the result of one of the QA checks you mentioned. I guess a better question would be: has the at-board list been released yet and is there any other way to find out...

    Jan/Feb/Mar Boards

So apparently CNRC takes a preliminary look at the package before they forward it to the board for consideration. Last week, my processor said they wanted clarification for something in my application, which I faxed over. He said everything else in my kit was good so does that mean my package is...

http://nyusn.blogspot.com/2011/11/event.html He says it's for NRD NY but I'd rather be safe in case it applies to all NRDs. My OR also seems to be under the impression that the deadline is sooner than the 23rd.

    Jan/Feb/Mar Boards

The deadline for the Jan. 23 board is in approximately one week. How are you planning on bolstering your application package in time for it to be considered for this board? Recruiter says "pilot technically closed now"

My OR just called me (~3 hours ago) telling me to get my shit in ASAP for the January 23rd board. I'm only applying for SNA, so I'm assuming it's still on. He has always been straight with me so I think he would've told me if there were any drastic updates. And this certainly would qualify as a...

    February 2012 SNA OCS Board

So that explains it. My OR was telling me a couple weeks ago that I "only have three shots" for a SNA pro rec and I was thinking huh? February 2012 SNA OCS Board

Thanks man. If I remember correctly, you had a nasty GPA though. A 3.7+ from Cornell is money; it'll open up pretty much any door in life. I'm relying more on my ASTB to compensate for my weak GPA.

Does anyone know how the relatively large number of intended SNA selects from this board will affect pilot boards in the near future? I'm kind of nervous that any intended SNA boards held in FY12 or FY13 might severely trimmed or cancelled due to the number of SNAs taken from this board. The...
