Anthropomorphic issue for fitting in a naval strike fighter jet

I think you mistook me Sir. I never implied he/she would be "settling" for the Marines. For me (and I assume many people on here), serving in the military is more important than one service over the other. I think each branch has an important mission and at the end of the day, flying to support...

    T6B Instructional Videos on YouTube

Some solid GoPro videos from T6B cockpit now up on YouTube. They have course rules, forms, aero, and break and landing videos. The music is lame but there is prompting for radio calls and hand signals (during forms). Would have been clutch to have 'back in my day' but I just selected. On...

Prowler crashes in Eastern Washington, Aviators Feared Dead

Hate to bring this thread back up but I was wondering how long it usually takes for the Navy to release more info on mishaps like this? Since the accident I've been been curious as to what was the cause and why this crew was unable to punch out.

    What % goes to multi-engine?

I have friends in Kingville and Meridian who told me that they have enough volunteers to fill most spots for E2/C2 these days. For the times there is no volunteer, the selection is not so much based on performance as it is what kind of a guy you are.

Anthropomorphic issue for fitting in a naval strike fighter jet

I would also add two tips from my salty 12 months in: Get a package going for Marines too - they'll get you a flight physical and anthro measurments as part of your package. It also increases your chances of getting picked up by a service (even tho Marine Corps is backed up at the moment). If...

^^I second that. Take 2 weeks off work to really build up your conditioning, especially if you're not where you want to be physically. Study some of the gouge out there, but most importantly enjoy the time with your family and friends.

    IFS down the tubes?

IFS was pretty easy and mostly fun. However, while there I either knew of or heard about 3 minor mishaps, 2 DORs, 2 people who had PRBs, and 1 person attrite. That said flying a Cessna does next to nothing to prepare you for the T6, it really just serves as a weed out process.

To answer the question: yes people barf, usually during morning PT because they screwed something up or got caught cheating. I've also seen it during and after the PFA. If you show up fat/out of shape they will find you and they will "melt the fat off," as I heard one DI yell at one kid. If...

    Good Realtors in Pensacola/Perdido?

For us, we moved out to head up to Milton. Turned our keys in a week before our lease was over and, after days of meticulously cleaning, told them to call us if something wasn't good to go (so we could come clean/fix it). 35 days after our move out date, we get a claim notice. Florida law says...

    Good Realtors in Pensacola/Perdido?

Thanks for asking!!! DO NOT USE POINTE SOUTH! Rant: Military renters provide them with a business in the on and off season and they repay us by screwing us out of our security deposit and unleashing their lawyer on you when you refute the claim. My wife and I, as well as everyone we know who...

    MEPS LASIK Form

I am in Primary right now, enrolled in the LASIK study. I do not remember such a form and looked through my records and couldn't find anything like it. Transfer to Coast Guard before/during/after Primary

Tried searching for this but couldn't find anything, so here goes: Does anyone know if there a possibility to transfer from the Navy to CG prior to or even after completing Primary? I am just about to graduate API and have orders to Whiting. I've heard of transfers to the Marines in the past...

I'm at my wit's end concerning OCS and would appreciate insight.

Missed both of my brothers weddings while at OCS. Would have been best man at both - those were crappy phone calls to make. Best decision I ever made though, flight suits are a hell of a lot easier to put on, and look better than tuxedos.
  20. shutout39

How long are you waiting to class up for API?

A few things: Uncle Fester is right, there are plenty of deals on Perdido right now and more places open up every day. Its beautiful over here. There is a housing building by the front gate with volunteer realtors who can help you find a good place not on any of those sites. Also, don't put your...

    Uniform Issue

I just went through OCS a bit ago, the allowance is somewhere in the $2100 range and the actual cost totals over $3k. If you're an SNA/SNFO you get another $400 and $200 at Pcola and your follow on school respectively. Just keep an eye on it and make sure it shows up in MyPay. Either way you...

1,001 questions about the ASTB (post your scores & ask your questions here!)

Meesh, I have good news - the next 2 years of your life are going to suck. You have to get your GPA up, that's your biggest hurdle. I would even consider retaking 2-3 courses you did poorly in and ace those bad boys to get your GPA higher. Either of those majors will most likely not affect your...

How long are you waiting to class up for API?

Yes, married guys are the only ones getting PCS down here and that's only because you should already have follow on orders to Milton. Just go to the base nearest you and they should be able to set it up. I did a DITY so I can't shed too much light on PCS, just know that my buddy is doing it now.
  24. shutout39

How long are you waiting to class up for API?

Up to 21 days total (4+ 17, as posted above). If you're not there after 21 days you will be considered AWOL. So, no you are not required to take any leave if you're here in 4 days. I would recommend getting here as soon as possible. Its already crammed and wait times are about 4 months to class...

    Pre-OCS PRT suspended?

So why are some ORs giving PRT tests to civilian OCs? Is it because they are misinformed or because they just want to make sure their candidate is in good shape prior to arriving and this is one way to make sure?

    Pre-OCS PRT suspended?

This would be a good question for NavyOffRec, if you see this: is the pre-OCS PFA reinstated Nationally? My understanding was that is was still not required, but was up to the NRD to decide if they wanted to do it. The reason I ask is other OCs from my March 4th class are doing theirs or have...

Vision correctable to 20/20 but not good enough for naval aviation?

Also, you'll note the name of the letters are called 'Sloan' letters, which are on most Snellen charts today. Looks like the biggest tricks are that the C is almost fully closed to make an O and the N and H look like they could be mixed up if you go too fast.

Quick question: I am slotted to go to OCS in early March, and I just remembered a root canal and capping procedure done about 10 years ago. What should be my corrective action here - just bring the documents with me to OCS and tell them this, or should I do something now with my OR?
