The SHOW: Airlines still a "good gig"??

Damn, we only get free granola bars.

    Which watch?

I saw one of our new hire FO’s sporting a man bun, times are changing.

This is the result of delayed AC deliveries, planes are full and still making money.

    Naval Aviations "One" Problem...

El Toro was awesome in the 80’s and early 90’s. Ended up in Fallon and still there 30 years later. If you enjoy an outdoor life style, you will be able to make the most of it. If your wife needs malls and traffic, probably won’t be for you.

Alaska Airlines 737 MAX 9 Decompression

At the end of a flight it custom to leave the seat in the full forward position so the next crew can more easily stow their bags. The switch on the back of the seat is there for convenience to run the seat back with out having to bend forward to reach the switch on the seat down by the lower...

    Naval Aviations "One" Problem...

Watching great dudes and future leaders get thrown under the bus to protect flag rank and above was one of my main factors for punching out at my 10 year mark.

Amazing how much better a voice not ravaged by drug abuse is. Nice job!

    U-2 Retirement

I flew with a guy who washed out of the U-2 program. He said he was fine until it was time to fly in the pressure suit. I could see how that is a thing. Hats off to the folks who qualified.

NEWS Is the pivot to China a bunch of bullshit?

I see 2 possibilities for China, either the people rebel and the Army backs them or they turn into a giant NK. Of course I’m just talking out my a$$.

    Random Griz Aviation Musings

I would say that if a student can make it through an advanced jet (T-38, Goshawk) syllabus they could make the transition. I don’t know about going straight from a T-6. I think the brain needs to adjust to jet speeds.

    Random Griz Aviation Musings

With sim technology I see no reason to fly around in a little jet that doesn’t handle anything like a transport size aircraft. I came from a fighter, trained in a sim and did my first landing in an actual airliner with a full load of paying passengers. CRM and crew coordination can be more...

Scooters Forever (A-4 Skyhawk Tribute Thread)

Got my first choice out of flight school, A-4M. At the time there was a 6 month pool at the RAG in Yuma so orders in hand the the HAMs squadron in Cherry Point where they said I could fly the OA-4 since we came out of flight school with an A-4 NATOPS qual. The day I checked in they told me I had...

    Football season cometh.

12 teams go into the playoffs. There will be 1 loss teams in the playoffs, possibly 2 loss teams from big 10 and SEC.

What did you get from Santa for Christmas 2020?

What normal person would marry a pilot?

    Football season cometh.

If Georgia and Alabama have another 3 point win in the SEC championship game they will probably see each other again in the final game with the new format as long as that is their only loss.

Alaska Airlines 737 MAX 9 Decompression

Not an emergency exit but a plug where a door would go. All max 9s and 900s have this feature.

I fly with tons of guys with 100% VA disability. Just don’t try to hide anything.

    Maintenance at a civil airport?

I remember once a USMC F-4 in Osan had an attitude gyro that was tumbling pre go for a hard IFR flight back to Iwakuni. The crew did a quick swap of gyros with an adjacent USAF F-4 on the T line and pressed…alledgedly.

Rejoin after DOR 5 years later

I have flown with FO’s on the 777 that were private pilots in 2018. There is no better time to fast track to the majors. You can have a long career in aviation but unfortunately military flying is not in the cards.

    Resigning Gouge

My bad, year 1,2 NB Capt pay is only 330/hr.😉
  27. Fallonflyr

    Resigning Gouge

Get your seniority number as soon as you can if you are planning to get out. Starting Capt pay is around 350K a year and my company is currently giving Capt bids to new hires. Don’t know how long that will last.

    Flight School backed up

It will interesting to see how they are received by their squadron mates when they hit the fleet. Will they be thought of as “less then” because they did not go through the T-6 syllabus like the old heads? Kinda like if they let people become SEALs without having to go through BUDS.

If you are perfectly honest about your past, you will either get in or you won’t. It doesn’t hurt to try and if it doesn’t work out at least you can live with the fact that you gave it a shot.

Unless you are going to the airlines…my company has started a program where you can be offered a job as soon as you are winged. Of course the economy might be different 10 years from now but the plan is to become a 28,000 pilot seniority list in the next 10 years. We are currently around...

    USMC Marathon

I ran it with my wife back in the 80’s. My training was running 3 miles around 4 times a week to maintain my 300 PFT. I was able to hang with her for about 5 Miles but ended up finishing about an hour behind her. Old lady’s were passing me by the end. One of the dumbest things I have ever done.
