    Disassociated Sea Tour Likelihood

Nah, I’m talking about something different. The actual resignation request is indeed through NSIPS. My buddies that have been in OP’s position (or similar) have been told by detailers past that they needed to submit an official letter of intent for detailing considerations for disassociated...
  2. MGoBrew11

    Disassociated Sea Tour Likelihood

Isn’t there also a “Letter of intent” to resign that OP should be submitting? If he just starts the conversation and PERS doesn’t hear those magic words, they can cut him essentially whenever they want and get him for the disassociated (knowing full well what he is likely getting at but hasn’t...

    Navy Dedicated SAR Squadrons

    Only private revelation 😂
  4. MGoBrew11

    Navy Dedicated SAR Squadrons

Also fwiw, an actual IST is almost impossible right now…Navy won’t release anyone before MSR. To get DCA you typically have to resign at your MSR and pick up DCA to commission in the USCG.
  5. MGoBrew11

    Navy Dedicated SAR Squadrons

Coast Guard DCA changes with market competitiveness. As was alluded, there is technically a 10 year AD service cap. I have seen them waive it up to 11-12. Right now they suspended the commission as an O-2 thing. Pilots are commissioning as O-3, but it could always go back. That is still kind...

    Naval Aviations "One" Problem...

Uncle Fester already hit the highest points but yeah, it’s essentially the full time reserve managers. Different (but in some ways same) career track and supposed to be more flexibility. Unfortunately from what I hear it’s been creeping more and more towards just regular Navy over the years. I...

    Naval Aviations "One" Problem...

As a fellow TAR, that scares me. I’ve heard of the odd IA here and there but I think most anyone that goes TAR is doing it to stay Navy while avoiding some of the REGNAV shenanigans. Glad you dodged that bullet.
  8. MGoBrew11

    Naval Aviations "One" Problem...

And they ask why there is a retention problem.
  9. MGoBrew11

Stupid Questions about Naval Aviation (Part 3)

Really? Bummer. I did a 2P/2P flight on a 2016 deployment. I didn’t really think much of it at the time, but I suppose it builds the confidence a little bit.
  10. MGoBrew11

What is a typical mission in 2024?

Drinkin beer and telling war stories!

    Romeos Vs. Sierras

That IP sucked then. I loved flying in East County and taking the students out there. That was one of the better FRS flights. Got plenty of good stick and rudder time in HSM, so I’d say the whole “HSM just uses altitude hold and nerds out” is also caricature. Do we fly as aggressively as you...
  12. MGoBrew11

    Romeos Vs. Sierras

Absolutely…and ironically the most fun missions I did in the R were logistics, pax transfers and MEDEVACs.
  13. MGoBrew11

    Romeos Vs. Sierras

Fair enough, you’re more in the know than I am. I stand by the rest of what I said. No one should take it personally. This topic has been beaten to death over the years on these forums and the consensus is usually about the same. A decade ago, my main beef with HSC was that all of us students...
  14. MGoBrew11

    Romeos Vs. Sierras

Didn’t say HSM was “better” or the crews more capable…the sensors make it a more capable platform to investigate in the first place.
  15. MGoBrew11

    Romeos Vs. Sierras

^that’s all true, but if he’s asking becasue he wants to know which community has the better outlook and generally is perceived as the better place to be, then I think we’re all in agreement.
  16. MGoBrew11

    Romeos Vs. Sierras

Also from an outsiders perspective since I was HSM, but from what I’ve gathered from friends: their past leadership focused too much on missions they ultimately were unlikely to get on a consistent basis. With all their eggs in the SOF/CASEVAC basket, they were never “needed” in the same way...
  17. MGoBrew11

    Romeos Vs. Sierras

In addition, HSM arguably has better duty stations: San Diego, Jacksonville, Hawaii, Spain, Japan. HSC: San Diego, Norfolk, Japan, Guam
  18. MGoBrew11

    Romeos Vs. Sierras

It’s not so much you’ll get more or fewer hours in a specific community (you’ll probably get about the same either way), but whether the mission you’re doing is fulfilling and what the long term community outlook is. And in that regard, go for HSM.

    Aviation Warfare Transition

Great write up and solid contribution to the forum here! And congrats on the transition. Had to chuckle at the evasive SERE answers PERS gave you to numbers 4-6 though. Of course communities hold people back. It’s not because any individual is “too good” to release. It’s just because they’ve...

Pursuing a career in law or SNA

But on the Navy side did you get your rank, time in service etc back right away? What were those hoops like? Navy never makes it as easy as it should be… Maybe I’m thinking of JAG reserves. I think their page said you couldn’t be a prior military officer…maybe different requirements for the...

Pursuing a career in law or SNA

How did you swing this if I might ask? Just out of curiosity. Too late for me as I’m in TAR now…I looked into this but it looked like you couldn’t come back in as a JAG if you had already been a commissioned officer when I did the surface level research. I’m still considering law school after a...

    Football season cometh.

Eh, not sure I agree, but that would definitely be the perception. The bowl games outside of the CFP are so meaningless now…not sure how much stock should even be put in any of the results. The players don’t really have anything to play for and some of them don’t even suit up anymore. I’m not...

    Football season cometh.

We are down our best O lineman for sure and potentially our best CB (didn’t play last night).
  28. MGoBrew11

    Football season cometh.

Pete Finebaum is a dweeb. Texas got dragged into the CFP by Bama winning the SEC. It’s that simple. They wanted the SEC champ but then couldn’t exclude Texas based on the head to head. If Georgia wins yesterday FSU is in over Texas.
  29. MGoBrew11

    Football season cometh.

I’m confident in our team but you never know! I must say of all the teams alive, Bama scares me most.
  30. MGoBrew11

    Football season cometh.

Well next year we have that fortunately. Top 5 ranked conference champions and then at large bids. But yeah, this is not cool to the FSU players and coaches who deserved better.
  31. MGoBrew11

    Football season cometh.

I’d like to see and would be most fair: 1. Michigan 2. Wash 3. Texas 4. FSU What I fear the committee will actually do: 1. Mich 2. Wash 3. Texas 4. Bama
  32. MGoBrew11

    Football season cometh.

We will lose next week with another game like that. Some real concerns popping up late in the season which is never good. 2 starting OL out, WR1 left the game, JJ didn’t look great. I think HC/OC/OL duties are too much for Sherrone Moore. Wish we’d shed some of the HC load to some other...

    Football season cometh.

You think that’s why Franklin can’t get over the hump? Head coaches just have to adjust to the carousel of assistants. That’s part of the job. I think you have to look at Franklin’s record against M and OSU and just acknowledge it is what it is…obviously saying that as a total outsider and...
  34. MGoBrew11

    Football season cometh.

He’s in a tough spot like Harbaugh was in 2018 timeframe. Just can’t get over the hump.
  35. MGoBrew11

    Football season cometh.

Yeah I think JJ was dinged up and they were protecting him a bit. Epic post game
  36. MGoBrew11

    Football season cometh.

Sorry Nittany, bad day to be a PSU fan. Franklin got to be feeling the heat. I was also puzzled why Michigan wasn’t throwing the ball in the 2nd half. It was driving me nuts.
  37. MGoBrew11

    Football season cometh.

Absolute horse excrement. Free Harbaugh! I’m confident in this team rallying around this. Can’t wait for that idiot Tony Petitti to hand him the B1G trophy in Indy on Dec. 2. Harbaugh can then look him in the eye and drop it.
  38. MGoBrew11

    Flight School backed up

Yeah, this was discussed a lot in another thread. There are a lot of criticisms/concerns about the program, and this is definitely one of the big ones.

They hate us cuz they ain’t us! Also, Stalions sounds like a psycho and I hope this doesn’t tube our season.

    War in Israel

Becasue, Chuck, what good would it really do to go over there and use our might? We spent 20 flipping years in Afghanistan and Iraq. And for what? I’m a dad to two young kids. Why the heck should I and other fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters etc go over there and risk our lives to fight more...

    War in Israel

    What AW thread doesn’t!?
  43. MGoBrew11

    War in Israel

Of course. I’ve got no problem with sending the CSG to the region or supporting in other ways. The knee jerk “boots on ground” response just gets me every time.
  44. MGoBrew11

    War in Israel

Please stop. I believe you expressed similar sentiments about how we should be gung ho in going into Ukraine. What Hamas did was evil. Full stop. However, I have no interest in going over there to fight and die. This is a conflict that has been going on for a long time and the Israelis are...
  45. MGoBrew11

    Flight School backed up

Yeah, this is sounding a lot like a helo version of IFS. Which, no offense to those guys, but that was the worst flight instruction I got in the Navy by far. Studs, another reason to avoid this direct to helo pipeline!
  46. MGoBrew11

    Flight School backed up

Yeah, that’s a “no” from me dawg. They’re going to have to pony up a lot more if they want former Navy/military instructors.
  47. MGoBrew11

    Football season cometh.

None of the big dogs have any incentive to do the relegation idea. Of course those schools mentioned are in favor of it…they’ve already effectively been relegated to the second rung. Won’t ever happen.
  48. MGoBrew11

    Football season cometh.

It will be spectacular if you are a PSU fan.... I think it will be a blowout, not a great game.
  49. MGoBrew11

    USERRA Act

…definitely not what it’s meant for. But if you can swing it, hey, good for you. I’ve seen a few Navy TAR guys do this as well but the timing has to be perfect.
  50. MGoBrew11

    Football season cometh.

I’ll still watch if Michigan is in. It’s entertaining. Which is all it’s meant to be. Edit: also, there is an argument to be made that the expanded playoff will increase parity. More teams = more chance for chaos and shifting power dynamics. Also increased exposure for teams outside of the SEC...
