Could be something. Additionally, this discharge petition has potential. I haven't heard any follow-up on it though...
You just inspired me to go back and look at our class quote log.
"Sir, this officer candidate requests permission to make a head call."
"Proceed."
"Sir, this officer candidate requests permission to join."
"...proceed..."
Overall, yes. I dunno about you though, but the first boxed lunch my class got was the worst meal of my life. Infinitely worse than eating by the numbers.
Pensacola commissary turned me off to the idea of even trying to go to another. Crowded, slow, and the worst produce I've ever seen in a store. Besides, I live a half mile from Harris Teeter now.
IIRC, the Newport commissary was closed Mondays too.
When I left, some of the staff were pushing for CPR and other medical training for the candios. The occasional medical emergency without trained staff around prompted the discussion.
As a VA driver...ouch! I'd still have to give the bad driving award to NJ or CT.
I'm definitely keeping my options open. Just want to find an affordable place somewhere I won't get stabbed that isn't way-the-fuck out there. Hopefully an actual visit to Norfolk will prove fruitful.
I'm about to move up to Norfolk for VAW-120 and scouting for an apartment. Everybody I've talked to says to look in Ghent or Chicks Beach. I have my eye on a few places, but so far I'm not seeing too much I could afford alone (and I'd prefer a roommate anyway). I'll be in Norfolk from the 2nd...
I guess I'm sort of adding to the general consensus here, but...
Would it have helped me in training to have prior experience? Absolutely. The prior knowledge and experience can't hurt. Knowing that, would I spend the money for a PPL and a bunch of additional ratings before starting training...
Legitimately curious, since I know nothing about these schools. You still graduate with a bachelors, correct? How does the cost of a four-year degree and flight time at an FBO compare to the cost of a professional pilot degree?
I could be (read: probably am) completely talking out of my ass here, but I'd been told one of the biggest reasons doesn't come from the FAA, but rather the FCC. 250 cell phones hopping cell towers during critical phases of flight while they're still in reception range doesn't exactly do great...
Well my point was more that if you've already been studying for several weeks for what is primarily an aptitude test, tacking a few extra days on there to cram really isn't going to change much.
My roommate and I are looking for a third person to rent an apartment two minutes out the back gate of NASP.
3 BR/2 BA with balcony on the water. Fully furnished second floor apartment in a complex with parking garage, fishing pier, and swimming pool. I can give pictures on request. Rent with...
It's an aptitude test. If you aren't ready, a few more days isn't going to prepare you. I only had about a week to prepare before I had to go in, and I did fine. If you don't feel prepared after a few weeks, ain't nothing gonna fix that.
But that's only things that are classified as PT. Squats, pushups, what-have-you. If a DI wants to make you sprint, or hold the rifle out at arm's length, or roll around in the sand pit...you can do that as long as he damn well pleases.
Well, yes. I did have that book. But beyond things like "The Big 4" and the rank structure, a lot of "firsthand" OCS gouge to be found online is outdated. Even a few things I had from my recruiter. Granted, I was BDCP, so I hung onto the package for a while before OCS.
I'll add another reason to the list here: A lot of the gouge you are going to find is most likely outdated and irrelevant to today's OCS. You'll be expecting and stressing about things that will never happen.
Plus the academics are easy. I think I slept through 90% of the engineering class and...
