Damn straight bradler…I’m trying not to be that candidate that every SI knows by name from day one! And since when is attention to detail a bad thing anyway. To all my fellow 196’ers I sincerely wish each of you the very best of luck.

    OCS Packing List

What do you guys mean “plenty of room in your duffle bag”? I thought your civilian bag was supposed to be a backpack? I’m defiantly don’t have enough room for my boots and running shoes.

I saw the same thing so I went ahead and got the 1" thats a little waxy and tried to write on it and it worked fine and stuck good. I bought some clear tape to put over it... someone said to put it over the athletic tape to keep it from bleeding.

My Bates Lights were they way they were supposed to be...one size smaller than my go-fasters. I did have to get extra wide though.

I’m convinced that most Marines or those that wish to be one, listen to rock but I could be wrong.

Thanks guys... I hope to meet ya at OCS! Keep the advise coming! Hey DiminDave! Doc and myself are out of the Austin office and we just heard about selection Monday. I would assume the Houston guys should have been selected already as well...if thats what your talking about.

    OCS Packing List

Thanks Conaway! I feel like i'm a little ahead of the game. I was wondering if anyone knows whether its a good idea to get some of the shots now before OCS. One of the LTs in my OSOs office said that they gave him an ass load of shots and he was woozie (not sure how to spell that) and sore...

    OCS Packing List

I have a feeling that buying a bunch of this stuff would come in handy at least once or twice during OCS so to me its worth it. During Pick up however it seems like a lot of this stuff could be easily lost. I have 3 questions: Will their be time/opportunity to mark all of ones belongings...

Do they let you shave with any kind of razor? My brother just finished infantry training with the army and they only let him use the disposable kind. Should we have some of this stuff sent instead because its my understanding that alot of stuff is going to get lost anyway.

I heard you could really get in trouble for having a cell phone! I think i'll just get a pay as you go phone on Libo and then turn it in when I get back. At least i'll get see what happened to the guys that did bring one instead of just risking it!

    Pull Up/Chin Up method

Right now I can do about 21 inboard pull ups and 15 outboard. I'm 231 lbs but inboard have always been easier for some reason.

The PRK process from start to finish

It looks like I am going to be selected for Marine OCS 196 in Sept. and afterwards i will have over a month before TBS. Is it possible to have PRK done durring the break? What would I have to do to make sure I don't get in trouble for this. It just seems like the perfect time to do it!

    Ground Vision

Would anyone happen to know the Marine Corps vision standards for Ground guys. I guess what i'm asking is how bad can your eyes be and still get in?
  26. Ground&Pound

If your talking about NAS Kingsville or CC......I don't know how long you've been in the area but this summer has been the mildest I can remember. Its only been 100 degrees a few times. I can remember growing up it would be over a 100 for weeks on end. Not to mention the humidity in the 80's...

Yeah I figured! I just wanted to see if anyone was crazy enough to want Jan. I'm from South Texas and the thought of snow on the ground is crazy to me. Give me the so called brutal Quantico summer any day. You want to see what hot is....come visit the rio grande valley!

    Occ196

I agree 100%. In my opinion Marine OCS should always remain the most difficult and demanding military entrance course in the world but times have changed. We know more about the science of human performance than ever before. Maybe the Marines are leading the way again?

I heard the training was going to be more intense for a shorter duration to cut down on injury. Basically the new colonel said the goal was to train leaders not marathon runners and too many candidates were getting hurt and not able to complete training. My OSO said that what he got from the...

Monster Marine OCS thread: stupid questions answered here!

Cut-throat at OCS? My OSO told me that OCS was very cut-throat! Basically, if the other candidates see you as weak, they turn on you. Does anyone have any experience with this?

    Favorite run/pullup workouts

I'm 6'1 239lbs. on a good day and have been able to get 21 pullups in front of my OSO before. For some reason i'm always scared i'm going to lose them so I work really hard. It was a lot of work to get there. I like the towel idea...do you think that it would help with the rope climb too...

    Favorite run/pullup workouts

Ground&Pound refers to Mixed Martial Arts when one fighter takes the other to the ground, stands in his "guard" and pounds away at him. I train in MMA (Jiu-jitsu, Muay Thai, Wrestling etc.) and i'm going ground (Infantry I hope) so I thought it was fitting.

    Favorite run/pullup workouts

I was just wondering if anyone out there would like to share their workouts. If you have something that works for you maybe you can share it! Good excuse to not run distance

Thanks guys! 0302 is what I’m going to try for if I get selected in Sept. I'm working out with a partner who is also applying for Sept. and is faster than me so that helps a lot. It feels like the Marines don't show us bigger guys any love. I'm sitting around 17% body fat so I’m just barely...

Good excuse to not run distance

I’m very glad to hear that there are bigger buys out there that run really good times. It gives me hope. I fluctuate between 239lbs and 242lbs and right now my 3 mile is officially 21:40 for a total of a 278 PFT. I’d love to have that 19:30 and I working hard to see that I get it. I’m doing...
