PRK Waiver Denied- Post Commissioning Touchup Possible?

Just a follow up on this. I was pretty much ready to go ground after TBS because I was dq'd for anything aviation. I commissioned and asked about getting a touch-up during my 11 month wait for TBS. After getting a bunch of "No's" from various staff in my ROTC unit, I was finally given the...

Do we have any say where we attend primary?

Considering the probability that you'll knock up a stripper between now and then, you might want to look for areas with good schools so you and Trixie can raise a smart kid.

PRK Waiver Denied- Post Commissioning Touchup Possible?

Well I'm a senior Marine option Mid and I just got the letter from NAMI informing me that I am disqualified from both Aviation contracts. My PRK waiver has been denied because I still have haze and am not fully 20/20 in my left eye. Righty is doing good but the left one stabilized around 20/40...

PRK after USMC OCS, before Commissioning

I was aiming for SNA but it's looking like I will need to go SNFO because of my PRK issues. I'd have no problems going NFO but the latest info I've seen doesn't make for much future in being a NFO in the Marine Corps, with the switch to all single seat aircraft in the next 10 years.

    Not so average NRTOC questionI

First of all, it's NROTC for Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps. If you're on College Program, you'll have no problem doing either Navy or Marine option. If you're on scholarship, it's much more difficult to switch. With my unit, we decided ahead of time, but if your school didn't give you...

    Officer to enlisted SEAL

A guy DOR'd from my ROTC unit as a senior because he wasn't selected for SEALs. As far as I know he went enlisted and is going through BUD/S. Definitely a different process than resigning a commission, but I can't blame the guy who's made it his mission to become a SEAL and won't accept anything...

PRK after USMC OCS, before Commissioning

I'd be interested in hearing more about this. I'm 7 months post-op with 20/15 right and something like 20/40 left. I won't be eligible for a touch- up until December, and I'm set to commission in May '12. My MOI tells me that a touch-up wouldn't be possible because there's a 6 month waiver...

Monster Marine OCS thread: stupid questions answered here!

Bring: A durable watch. They didn't take these away from us and it was damn useful at night. A GOOD headlamp (Not in fact, contraband) with a red lens. I brought a shitty one and suffered for it. 1" White tape. Lots. Electric tape (When you mark your rifle, put a layer of electric tape first...

Air Contract - High ASTB / Low PRT

Work on that run time! I just finished OCS and we did a lot more running than upper body work. Also, don't worry about lifting too much- they focus on "functional fitness" which was all body-weight exercises. We all lost muscle and fat and everyone's times went down but I wouldn't show up here...

Air force ROTC vs. Naval ROTC

AF ROTC has been known to do hip-hop aerobic PT and some sort of tricycle-based PT on my campus. As in, a "big-wheel" tricycle. I have also seen AF ROTC cadets riding razor scooters in their uniforms. However it just comes down to which service you want to join.

France's Burqa ban goes into effect.

This is a French issue, not an American one. Definitely more aimed at France's 'secular identity' than anything else. I don't really care but I think it is France's call. Like Treetop said, foreigners don't have an inherent right to live in France- if they choose to move there they will need to...

Motion Sickness: a barrier for a potential aviator?

This thread answers a few questions I had, since I'm about to put apply for an air contract- and I've gotten motion sickness a few times. I'm assuming it's the same deal with seasickness? Does this go away on the boat after a few days?

    Marine Option NROTC

I agree that that sounds like a lot of self-inflicted pain. At my unit we PT 3 times a week. We do have FEXs once a semester but 0645 every Saturday sounds awful.

NROTC, Navy options versus Marine option

ROTC is a means to an end. Do you want to be a Navy Officer or a Marine Officer? If you go Navy and you don't get a SNA slot, are you okay with going SWO? If you go Marine and don't get an air contract are you okay going ground? It comes down to the service. Do you want to join the Marines or...

what are my chances of a NROTC scholarship

Of course there's a shot. Keep your GPA up. Get physically fit and do well on the PRT. Do well on the ACT and pick an engineering major. Worst case scenario- you don't get a scholarship. In this case, you can still go in as a college programmer, where they don't pay your tuition, and compete for...

The best way to improve your running is to learn to enjoy it. Bring your iPod, plan some varied routes, run with a buddy and have a conversation. The Return of the Fleming

Completely agree. Someone shouldn't need any more incentive besides getting a chance to serve their country and a free education. This is what bothers me most about the football recruiting- they shouldn't need to ask people to go to USNA. Our military deserves people who go out of their way to...

You've got a while until OCS and college graduation- but still- good on you for setting some goals and planning ahead. As a sophomore in HS- you should keep good grades, do well on the SAT/ACT (You need to get into college first), do some sports and keep physically fit, maybe join a club or...
