Best and worst experiences with flight instructors

This was one of the hardest concepts for me to wrap my head around when I went through multiengine. I was used to ripping through the checklist on my own and getting the jet going as fast as possible to slowed down pace where the IP would ding you if you had the gaul to say "checked" instead of...

    AW laps itself again (C-130/F-16/A-10/CVN)

No one's talking about putting a plane onto a carrier. They're talking about LANDING it on a carrier. Big difference when you throw Optimum AoA, hook points, waveoff capability in close... oh, by the way, the thing will have to be able to physically take it. A-10 F-18 See the difference...

Want to get a leg up on Primary?

Forget about maintenance for a minute, what's the cost going to be to insure this bucket? Add that to the cost per hour to keep it in the air and if that still doesn't make your head spin, you're on a better financial road then I am.

Writing young adult book - need some CQ questions answered, please?

... and I was the youngest... also when I was 29....and I guess I'm the freak who will say/ admit that the boat freaked me the hell out something fierce. Maybe that's just me.

    WWII uniform and Wings

...Of course...but USAAF Wings are those, not Naval Wings. You can't have the USAAF wings pinned on you if you're a Marine, even for just the ceremony, right? Putting the Silver wings next to a pair of Gold in a shadowbox with some pictures might be cool.

USS Abraham Lincoln Tiger Cruise 2011

That, Toaster, is an airplane. More specifically and less sarcastically it's a Charlie model Hornet going into burner at the end of a cat stroke. After watching a week of CQing, I'm pretty sure it's standard for them to into burner as they get shot, but a driver please correct me if I'm mistaken.

    TIMS at home

Yeah, we route paper too, but the two times I've used e-leave, it still was faster then previous commands. My point was why is the tracom always using different systems for the same crap? Be it TIMS or whatever. Or was TIMS forced down our throat by the AF since we all have to play nice in...

    TIMS at home

ASAP isn't a TIMSism. Yellow sheets should (IMO) always be done in MX control since I could always cheat, ask for help if needed or if something came up talk to maintenance about, plus they need to have those yellow sheets complete in order to close out during the day so if they are stuck there...

To OCS aspirants: This could be you.. I suggest all read.

It's too bad the author's post here is gone since he had some further posts that were very informative and was a pretty good discussion. Much better then the monkey-crap-slinging session that those comments turned into at least. Yikes.

Motion Sickness: a barrier for a potential aviator?

I got queasy a lot of the time I did low work in the 34, never in the 45 and a few times in the landing pattern in the 44. For me it was all about temperature. Down low doing LAPLs in the 34 made me hate life with that pathetic a/c spiting condensation all over me mixed with vomit from...

    Naval Air Stations, your experiences...

No experience OCONUS, but here's my $.02 which probably isn't worth half of that. Pensacola - Pretty nice. Get a place out the back gate and go to the beach as much as humanly possible. Whitting - Never been there, but it's so close to Pensacola its practically the same thing. Kingsville -...

    TIMS at home

You won't be able to access the CAI's just because you have access to TIMS. The computer itself needed local software installed on it to be able to launch the academic portions on it. Can all of this be overcome with the proper Citrix account and permissions? Possibly. Is it worth the massive...

The Great, Constantly Changing Picture Gallery

Thanks Jac, happened a while ago, but I've been away from AW for a while and to clear things up, I was only referring to dissimilar form flying with the T-34 b/c of what helolumpy said. Now that it's cleared up, someone better get cracking on that heritage flyby this summer. :P

    Kindle Versus Nook

^^ To add into that, yes you can put your NATOPS on a Kindle. Kinda hard to read and I would suggest it for straight reading, but to look up something up quickly, it's nice to have a tiny kindle then the massive blue bomb.

Wasn't there something in NATOPS or something forbidding dissimilar formation flying? I can't remember reading it, but I heard somewhere that a 34 crashed with a Tomcat back in the day doing a gear inspection. Maybe a TW SOP difference?

It would be really cool if they could organize a flyby with all of the throwback paint schemes from the TRACOM. Next to impossible to get a 34 and 45 at the same speed I know (and illegal I think?), but maybe just park them all together at some airshow this summer. If I can think of it, I hope...

Stupid Questions about Naval Aviation (Part 3)

Legit hookskips count as touch and go's for the GPA, assuming your pass wasn't garbage to begin with and caused it yourself. You won't know it since all you hear is "BOLTER BOLTER BOLTER" to make you go into panic mode and give the power the business. Hookskips happen because the hook isn't...

    VT-31 or VT-35?

It might be better looking but at least the 12's fly more. As of August, the maintenance was so bad it was a normal day to have only one up Alpha and one up Charlie. I'm sure it's gotten better as EVERYONE up top of the food chain has the T-44 in their crosshairs for problems to fix (or so we...

Bam. No fuss, no muss. Seven bucks. If I have them in for a while sometimes they hurt, but then I just pull them out and they still stay in place with the over-the-ear thing. Moving down to NAS Corpus Christi

Alta Bayside and Baypoint both offer garages for $85-100 more a month and give you a much better bang for the buck in my opinion. Being a closer ride to downtown and being able to use the back gate doesn't suck either. If you really care about your car, I'd avoid Beach Club on the island. No...

F-35B/C Lightning II (Joint Strike Fighter)

If the ergonomics are the same as the sim at Tailhook, it felt better then a center stick. Granted it was a portable sim, but it was very comfortable due to the arm rests. I didn't feel there would be much of a transition period, but I wasn't trying to write down holding instructions with my...

    Places to live in corpus

I lived in the Beach Club for Primary and thought it was a little overpriced and a little outdated.
