With the 100th anniversary of Belleau Wood approaching, very nice historical remembrance by French President Macron.

French President Emmanuel Macron said Sunday that he is bringing a living tribute to "Devil Dog" Marines who fell in the World War I battle of Belleau Wood to the White House this week as a symbol of the two nations' enduring ties.

The oak sapling from the battle site will be presented to President Donald Trump in hopes that it will be planted in the White House garden, Macron said in an interview on the "Fox News Sunday" program from the Elysee Palace in Paris.

100 years ago today, the 4th Marine Brigade went "over the top" at Belleau Wood with 2 time Medal of Honor winner Gunnery Sergeant Dan Daly extorting his Marines with the phrase, “C’mon you sons-of-bitches, do you want to live forever?" There were more Marine casualties that day than in entire prior history of The Corps. Of note, 5 future commandants and 6 more future flag officers served there. If you are ever in France, it is an impressive memorial, about an hour and a half northeast of Paris along the A-4 expressway.
