I have heard anecdotes along with a few articles published about the lack of training for commercial pilots in India. I think it is safe to say that flying on a budget airline based in India is not on my bucket list.

My brother in law was hired by, and trained with Jet Airways of India. He never made it to the line as they ended up in a deal with rival Kingfisher that cut flying so he was furloughed. He was prior USAF and retired USAirways line pilot and check airman. In fact, he currently is training Korean pilots for Boeing in Korea. His experience with Jet Airways and the regulating agency was good (aside from the red). He had no safety concerns.
