WHICH Brown Shoe?

I figured since you werent winged yet and still in an attrition stage, they would be more pissy about wearing the brown shoes and counting yourself as part of the "club" already. Noted though.
Nah man. From my experience (as you well know, always something you want to hear from an ENS) the command wants you to dress the part from the get-go. Brown shoes are authorized and highly encouraged as you can tell and brown boots are now standardized for your Flight Suit Friday. The dip in the cover is somewhat debated...I was told by the A-Pool DivO that it's authorized and that's good enough for me.

Works for me! Khakis and black shoes look awful IMO anyways.

Has some actually been assigned extra watch because of their shoes, or was this an offhand remark from the staff?
I’ve never actually seen someone with black shoes here because of it, so I guess we’ll never know if they would have followed through with the watches. I guess no one wanted to find out. We were told by flight management during our check-in brief that brown Bates with tan socks are required, and off brands are not authorized.

I love SNA overthinking uniform items as much as the next dude, but this sounds like an idle threat. Watch and an OLQ are their only real way power over you, so I guess useful as idle threats.

@rockthearts281 ...I’ve been meaning to ask...what does “IYAGMGFY” mean in your AW signature?

I’m sure you’re familiar with the AO phrase IYOYAS. Well I was an AO, but worked in a GM division onboard a carrier. During all WEPS calls the divos from all the AO divisions would call out “IF YOU AINT ORDNANCE!” And their divisions would respond. So my division being made up of gunners mates and Buds duds would call out “IF YOU AINT GUNNERS MATES” and the response would be “GO FUCK YOURSELVES”

We were not liked very much ?

Biggest adventure of my life! I climbed all over A-4's and worked with some very great people.
I'm sure if I had been a squadron AO my experience would have been very different. Ships company AO in G-3 not a part of the bomb building team was not my cup of tea. Had a great time in G-2 shooting guns though. It was hard work but was very fulfilling.

Everyone oughtta love a story like this, whether you're a "bring jobs back to 'Murrica" person, a "they don't make 'em like they used to" old curmudgeon, a tree-hugging hippie who hates landfill waste, a bleeding heart who hates exploitive labor in developing markets, a small businesses supporter, left wing or right,

Man, if I cold go back and take all the money that I wasted on shitty plastic Bates shoes from the NEX- or better yet, teach some of these young whippersnaps a lesson about investing in quality.

Enjoy the Navy town local interest story:
