Are age waivers without prior service completely impossible?

I have maxed out my ASTB attempts and have a score of 6/8/6 54. My recruiter told me I could go to the rolling boards a few months ago but we found out that was not the case after the October board due date. Now it appears the only hope is the regular board in February which is a problem because I Turn 27 on May 21st. I know there is an OCS class starting 5 days after the boards however, that seems difficult to accomplish. Anyone have any insight? Thanks.

No, it is impossible so don't waste anyones time? Or No, it is not impossible and worth attempting

No, age waivers aren’t issued to those who have no prior enlisted experience. It’s specifically stated in the program authorizations age waivers are only for prior service.

I know a guy, with no prior service, that got a waiver and is in his early 30's as an FNG. He was at least 29 when he commissioned. It CAN happen. I'm certainly not saying it is likely to happen though. That is the first I've heard of such a thing.

I graduated OCS a week before my 27th birthday. The guidance was that if I rolled back a class then I'd lose my SNA slot. Turns out, a non-prior rolled into my class, turned 27, and was immediately granted a waiver. It's going to be needs of the Navy, but if you're a gambling man, just get to OCS before you're 27th birthday and you could be fine.

If there's an ideal OCS date that would avoid the waiver process then do whatever you can to get into it. I wound up on the phone with Millington working out an OCS date for the same reason.

There had to have some sort of pull or connection that got him that waiver. Talking to the Aviation OCM (though not the current one) don’t bother sending an age waiver unless they’re prior service.

Oh yeah, for sure. I don't know the background story, I just know I was surprised when he told me his story, as I had never once heard of that happening for a non prior.

It is virtually impossible. It was 30+ years ago when I was recruiting and is today. Personally I never saw one and I was in and out of recruiting at various levels for years. I used to send people to USCG because they had a higher age limit, but that isn't much of an option these days. Program authorizations are Title 10, as I recall. You wouldn't ask if you could be allowed to steal beer from the 7-11. It isn't much different.

For some reason, this reminds me of my wife grumbling about one of her employees sending her a text message a few minutes before her showtime at work, asking "I shouldn't come to work if I have a black eye right?"

We had that happen to a guy from my NRD, he was given a choice, SWO or home.

I did see a person who went past the maximum age entirely due to a mistake on NRC's part (they had already rec'd a pro Y), a waiver was granted.

If I remember right, the NRD is under no obligation to send up an application that doesn't meet the requirements of the PA, is this still the case?

So I originally laughed and scrolled by this article.

Then my wife and I were talking about it over coffee this morning, and discussed gender fluidity, age fluidity and the military.

If we are starting to pretty much take anyone and everyone, why are we discriminating against older applicants? Are we truly as old as we feel? Could you successfully argue to change your age in this country and then use that new age to apply for an age restricted spot?

I fly/flew around kids in VT’s and in VP land who are in waaay less physical condition than my old crippled ass, so why not truly apply the “physically/mentally qualified” rubric to entrance requirements, vice a random age requirement?

I think it would open the accessions gate to more qualified applicants who may have thousands of hours in regionals and have heard enough sea stories from vets and want to join...

FIFY. I support your proposal but for selfish reasons, not altruistic nor patriotic ones.
