How competitive am I

Riverinerat

New Member
BS Interdisciplinary Studies with Area of Study in Business and Computational Science
Cumulative GPA 3.0
Start my MBA in the Fall
Age 35
Active duty time 15 years
Studying currently for the OAR to ensure I get the highest score possible.
Based on Age and reading the PA’s and what I have been told my only options are IP, And PAO and since I’m not in an intel rate or MC how likely is it to get picked up? are they any other programs I might possibly apply for that I am over looking? I was interested in Supply but PA says age waiver only up to 35 (execeptional experience) and HR is only a reserve option, is it possible to do a waiver beyond any of the cutoff ages? If this doesn’t work I’m looking to apply for to the Army warrant program because I don’t understand the Navy thinking when an Intel Officer can come in up to age 42 but SWO, SUPPLY stop at 31 for active duty, and HR is only a reserve option. Just sucks LDO Requirements went from 16 years to 14 years.

Your profile says you have a 2.8 but on here it’s a 3.0, which is it?

Either way, your age and low GPA make the odds of any OCS program slim to none. I don’t know how comepetitive the Army Warrant option but if you’re eligible and they say you’re competitive, I would jump ship to that. In the end, you still become an officer.

If you only want Navy, there are a ton of resources on here where you can find how competitive programs like IP are. Searching is your friend.

its a 3.0 did the calculation this morning on all my transcripts. And I have done the “search” thing Shipmate which is why I posted the question, besides the competitive aspect I ask several other questions because competitive is relitive to everyone unique qualifications. I am more asking in regard to my degree more that GPA. I know several who have been selected to Office programs who meet the minimum requirements on both GPA and OAR/ ASTB scores. Which is why they are minimums because you can still be selected. Competitive is the average of all who are selected.

I don't think anyone can give you a fair assessment without seeing your OAR and your evals.
Vincent I understand that and know it’s a loaded question. Evans are solid MP upon checkin progessing to EP while on board. Hit the key areas leadership, sailorization, command impact, etc. just tossing the question out as I have been in contact with several people including program managers and the word I get is you qualify so apply.

No you didn’t, shipmate. There is literally a separate thread where people can post stats and see where they stack. Can’t find it? It’s on the bottom of my signature line.

Yes, people have gotten selected on here for programs with the min GPA. These programs include aviation where a high ASTB score can offset the low GPA. Programs like Intel and IP who have selection rates around 5-10% won’t be as lucky.

You came here asking how competitive you are and now all of a sudden you are getting defensive because you have a low GPA and essentially too old for most OCS programs.

Negative, not getting defensive. If you are referring to being called Shipmate, We are all Shipmate and if you get defensive when someone calls you shipmate I do apologize. As an Officer according to your stats page, I appreciate your insight and guidance which NRD are you at as we maybe close and could speak and I could get some better guidance on these issues. Second I looked over that thread and could not find the answers to my specific questions hence the reason I ask them. Now if I posted to the wrong thread my apologies as this is the general form.

OCS programs evals are almost like a go - no go, if they are bad round file you go, if they are good, then you would get evaluated against the others based on GPA and degree. There are some other items that are a bit of a factor for IWC programs.

Supply limits you to 6 years active duty so age limit for many won't be the limiting factor.

Those key areas are important for Chief selection or higher, but when it comes to OCS from what I have read and anecdotal evidence from accepted Prior Enlisted Officers that I have spoken with (and those on this board) it's simply leadership and consistent high performance that they are looking at with regards to the information on your eval.

That being said, your OAR will be extremely important.

And like what was been said before, saying shipmate is usually said when chastising someone.

"Hey Shipmate, you're (insert negative comment here)"

Do you call your Chief Shipmate? What about your Divo? You can't just come here slinging around shipmates likes it the wild wild west. It's not Nam, there are rules.

Good point Shipmate! :D

I remember being a junior enlisted walking through the hangar bay and someone would yell "hey shipmate" the first thing I thought was "fuck, what did I do"
