What do you think about Navy food?

On shore:
How would you rate the food in the galley? (Please mention base, if possible)
Can you eat fairly healthy?
Are officers allowed to eat at the galley? If not, what did most do food-wise?

On boats:
What did you think about boat food? (Please mention type of boat, if possible)
..healthy?

Thanks for sharing!

Focus on getting your GPA up to a 2.5, then getting PRORECd, and finally across the finish line thru OCS and flight school before you get to the fleet.

Wardroom food universally sucks - Thank god for Dirty Shirt on a CVN. And the Auto Dog. But flying helos on small boys, blah. Learn the art of keeping lots of tuna, peanut butter and crackers in your stateroom.

US MRE's are still a real challenge too - the best rations ever are Canadian and NATO country 24 hour ration packs.

Great now this kid isn't gonna join the navy
You won't starve and as @robav8r pointed out, the food makes poops.

But if you're hoping for fine dining youre going to be disappointed.

I rarely ate in base galleys; in fact I think I may have eaten in a galley once during my time in the fleet. Food was cafeteria fair and was a slight step above boat food.

Availabilty and type of cookies is an important metric.

The food isn't bad, shore or ship. The CS's do the best they can with what supply gives them. As an old Chief told me long ago, "It'll make a turd."
Yeah, it seems we've got some picky eaters around here. I'd call boat wardroom food thoroughly average. It's cafeteria food that's usually OK, occasionally not bad at all, and has enough selection that you can usually avoid what sucks.

The only thing that really sucks is when some junior CS tries to stretch a batch of fresh veggies in the salad bar one day too long . . . ugh.

Weren't you just crying about boat food in another thread?

breakfast is USN food preps only saving grace; it's always been solid in galleys and on every boat I've been on.

^^This... Hard to f'up breakfast and "eggs to order" is a staple of the fleet.
