21 AUG

Everyone needs to report to Callaghan Hall in Training Country beginning 0800hrs on Sunday 21 AUG 16. You can use your orders to check into the Navy Lodge or Navy Gateway sooner but report for check-in and to commence training on Sunday. I know it is confusing, but if you attempt to check in before 21 AUG 16 you will be sent away because we have no way to accommodate you.
Thank you for the clarification.

I got a firm (sounding) date of August 21, along with my signed FINSEL letter today so I'm going to get used to the idea I'll be planting my feet in Newport soon. We have any more Pilot candidates in here?

Thank you sir. About to go buy a second pair for inspection purposes only.
There is no need to have a separate pair of shoes just for inspection. You can absolutely use your normal shoes. However, I highly recommend you bring a newer but worn in pair when you report. Don't waste your money on something that isn't going to help you pass an inspection.

Everyone: there is bad information going around that as long as you try hard on your first physical fitness test on Wed of Week 1 that you will not roll into Holding Company. That is completely false. If you fail due to being out of body composition standards, or you fail any part of the PRT (curl-ups, push-ups, or the 1.5 mile run), you WILL roll into H company. Morale of the story: show up to OCS in good physical shape. Be able to do all of the exercises with exact form, and the rest will all be gravy. Go to the OCS website for more information about the PRT and BCA standards, or web search Navy PRT standards.

I consider this Required Reading for all of my applicants who are selected. Read it front to back. Most recently updated this week from a recent OCS grad.

@navygraig A question here regarding some confusion with when/where to report. My flight lands in Providence at 2230 on Aug 20, and my recruiter said to head to King Hall on base immediately, where I will stay that night before check in on Aug 21. Is that correct, or do I need to book lodging elsewhere? Seems like we've all had mixed advice from our recruiters.

Second, are we allowed to shave with electric razors?

Third, what exactly do we need to bring as far as paperwork goes? I've heard just orders, and I've also been told five copies of orders, birth certificate, all medical docs, SS card, etc.

Thank you very much

Here is the exact quote from our website about this issue. Sorry for the confusion.
"Upon arrival to OTC, check-in wearing appropriate civilian attire on the Sunday closest to your report date at 0800. Ask the Base Security for directions for OCS check-in and follow posted signs that read "OCS Arrivals". This will take you to Callaghan Hall. Designated parking will be provided.

If arriving in Newport prior to the Sunday report date, you will need to make your own lodging accommodations as Officer Candidate School does not have the capability to house students prior to the designated report date."

Let me know if you have any issues.

Count another one in for SWO, 2016-08-21. I'm anxious to get into the thick of it with everybody, start working together, and learning. I'm currently waiting on flight itinerary, and my official orders still. Swore in last Thursday, and I'll be heading up from El Paso, TX. Good luck to all.

Anybody else having trouble with making a hotel reservation? Just received my itinerary today

I was in a similar boat, but, I still haven't gotten my itinerary or even my orders yet. I know people in our class that have itineraries as early as the Thursday prior to reporting. So what I did is I just found some hotel in Newport that offers free cancellation of reservations up to 24 hours prior. I got a room and I reserved 3 nights before reporting at 0800 on 08-21. That way I knew I'd atleast have a place somewhere, and when I get my flight itinerary I'll simply cancel the dates I don't need. All the rooms I could find were either doubles with queens or single. The Kings were more expensive so I reserved a double queen. If you cant find anything, let me know and when I receive my itinerary, and if it matches well enough with yours, I'll have a place for you. My FB is on my profile here.

This may be a tedious question. I was advised to buy Fox River socks as they're much better than what you can get from the NEX. Here is my question, though: I was told to be mindful of the thickness of the socks. Does anyone know what the measurements need to be?

I doubt the actual thick ness of the socks matter too much as apposed to the height of the sock. Everything I have read and seen says the length of the socks have to be to mid calf/shin. and white.

Yeah as soon as I submitted the question I realized the thickness had to do with whether they were winter socks or not. White? geez why can't I find any consistent gouge... A recent grad I spoke with said black.
