Trying for DCO PAO Community?

You won't believe this, but the boards are back already.

My recruiter just called to tell me that I've been selected as a Reserve PAO.

I'm so excited that I can't even stand it!

My recruiter called me the day after and said that she had been told days prior that the preliminary results would be out that day (Fri. 16 JAN). She said she went in Friday to the system and I was on there. So I have no idea what your recruiter is talking about or what system they both may or may not be looking at. My recruiter called me at 1230 on 16 JAN.

I smell troll, thanks to your silly link in your signature. And if you aren't a troll, you need to learn English grammar and the proper use of capitalization and punctuation or you won't make it a day in the Officer world.

I was this close to sending my application for Engineering Duty Officer (EDO) in the Navy reserve. I found out that there is no enlistment bonus nothing.. No thanks!

Seriously? Bonuses are nice, but if that's the only reason you want to be in the Navy, then the Navy is probably better off without you.

Public Affairs Officer (PAO), which is what I have been selected for, doesn't have any bonus either. In fact, it's so highly sought after that most people don't make it. I went through all that work and even spent $300+ just to fly to a city 1,000 miles away to get a good interview. Why? Because it's worth it.

If you don't think it's worth it to become an officer in the world's greatest navy without a bonus, then thank you very much for not applying and allowing those who WANT to serve just to serve their country get these much-coveted slots.

Good luck!
It took what seemed like forever but I finally heard back from my recruiter today. I am in! I was so happy I could barely dial the numbers on the keypad when I called him to ask whats next. PAO here I come! I gotta say I was getting to the point where I had given up the dream, but the dream lives on.

Woo-hoo! I got my final select letter today. According to the letter, COMDOCs should be here in 10 days (and the letter was dated the 14th).

Nice! I guess I should try getting a hold of my recruiter then. I did not want to keeep bugging him for updates but I have not heard a thing in almost two months. Congrats, hopefully I will hear something soon.

When you are speaking of only a limited number of slots for 120 applicants are you speaking of a particular DCO community?

I am going to be turning in my application packet to DCO into Intel. to hopefully sit for an August board. I wasn't aware that there is such a limited number of slots if that is applicable.

They were only looking for 17-21 in the PAO community. They didn't get all of them in the first round in JAN/FEB (only chose 7 I believe). I heard they had a special board in May... probably to get what they need. Even if they are "in need" they are still extremely selective. The 17-21 was a huge need... they usually need less than five a year I have heard.

I'd say 120 slots is quite a large number for a specific community for DIRCOM.

SavvyPR-

Wow, thanks for taking the time to bang all that out. I have been frustrated through the entire process. I was scheduled for the FEB boards, but my recruiter...and apparently several others were not properly notified of the board being moved up. My packet wasn't ready anyway....but that is where the 01 MAY board came from. I am entering my FOURTH week waiting. I called the recruiter and he said nothing has come out of that board yet....so....I am still waiting.

By the way, my recruiter has not mentioned MEPS at all. I know about MEPS from when I was active duty USAF. Thanks for all your information. I have some phone calls to make!

Sincerely,

NM
