Frederick Airport Today.

I’ve not been busy at work, not much going on. So, I spent the day goofing off, and generally hanging around various places in Frederick today.

This afternoon, I went to the far end of our local airport where a soaring club has its facilities. Nice area, nobody is ever around weekdays, and you can see the runways without any buildings or aircraft obstructing your view.

I was watching the various aircraft land and takeoff, when all of a sudden, a sleek little plane I’ve never seen before, sped into the break and landed. After that sierra hotel landing I just knew it had to be a Navy guy.

I drove to the other side of the airport where the “T” hangars are, and there was this little beauty. I walked up to the pilot and introduced myself, asked about the plane and we chatted awhile. Sure enough, the pilot had been a Prowler NFO. It’s a Chinese CJ-6 trainer. Some of you might have known, but I certainly didn’t. I told him about “AW”, he’d never been to the website.

Anyway, he let me take a few pictures. (Thanks again for the help, James I love the camera.)

Yep. You can open them or close them to maintain a constant temp. Probably helps to keep the birds from building a nest in the cowling as well.

Check out www.flyredstar.org for more information.

They will be doing a fly in near Waycross, Georgia ( KAYS ) in January. I've been down there several times and flown with them. There are usually 20-30 planes there at any one time getting their formation qualifications. My dad's frat bother has a CJ 6 and I've been lucky enough to get some time in his. Most of the members are former military aviators, with more USAF than Navy. Last year there was a new build Yak 9 there, quite impressive.

Man, talk about memories, wished I had a buck for every bird nest patch I had to make and install on gear doors.

Good shots, Steve. Was thinking about that place today, I took a hop there when I was 5 in a 172 with my Dad and Mom for my birthday. Mom got sick, but I got the bug. Never did go away, I guess.

Five, huh? Well my little buddy, Ben next door, who goes to “WT’s” with me, is seven. When he’s at my house he wants me to log onto “AW” to see what’s going on. Brett I guess, Ben is gonna be a Navy man too! He loves you guys.:)

Does Frederick still have that little cafe? We used to go there for lunch after church when I was a kid.

Not sure which place you're talkng about. Are you talking about Adamstown, Point of Rocks, or out on 40, where Mumbles, Ryan and I met for lunch?
