Custom Painted Flight Jacket: This is what one looks like.

All right, if people see me as "that guy," then I'm just gonna run with it:
"Patches may be affixed to the CWU-36/P Summer weight jacket either by hook and pile (Velcro) or directly to the jacket at the discretion of the individual, subject to commanding officer guidance. Patches shall not be affixed to the Multi-Climate Shell jacket."
This line is probably where the confusion is coming from. I have no idea what the "Multi-climate Shell Jacket" is, but the other one is the Nomex. Also, this one doesn't have a limit on how many patches like the reg for the leather jacket does.

This sounds like the Gore Tex shell that is used with the fleece kit. Even the sweet fleece vests that the helo bubbas love to wear.

MCPS is the Fleece layers/Goretex combo system. There are a couple different black fleeces, the green over fleece, and the Goretex jacket. All the 1990s technology you could want!

The Massif soft shells have largely replaced the green fleece and Goretex. Mucho more better.

Even cooler and more functional excuses for your MMCO to tell you he's out of money . . .

If the USNA Supe can do it, I figure it's kosher.

As nittany said, there are regs and there are regs.

BTW, this pic epitomizes a senior naval aviator.

Jacket procured overseas: check. Sweet Tipsy Gypsy patches: check. Breitling: check. Ring to knock: check. V-neck t-shirt: check. Giant model of the boat in his office: check.

Lots of good style points. Extra points if he's wearing cowboy boots like a former NAVAIR 00 did. He just needs to ditch the water bottle for a wardroom coffee mug.

AND a hook point next to the "giant model of the boat." ;)

Stumbled upon this thread . . .
To add to the hook point and "giant model of the boat", look at the Supe's WEP jacket. Holy patches Batman.

Could have sworn that's how your Nomex is supposed to look. Even in VP land (yea I know, we are typically the buzzkills) very few people will give you shit for putting qual/deployment/crew/squadron patches all over your jacket. I typically give the USNA guys a hard time for choosing Boy Scout summer camp instead of college, but good on the Vice Admiral for repping NavAir the correct way.

And the Pops/TG/Breitling combo isn't limited to senior guys - you should be rocking 2/3 if not all 3 by the time you screen for DH.

No one's giving him shit. We're just marveling at the number of centurion patches . . .
