I know a guy who knows a guy who has quoted decent new Rolex prices, but what does a used Pepsi Rolex go for? And how do you even do that without getting ripped off? Is a dealer the best bet?

Also, dumb question....how do you use the bezel with 24 increments? 60 increments makes sense (and what I'm used to), but 24 increments seems like you're limiting yourself to only hour measurements and not minutes (or seconds).

From what I've seen (online so, grain of salt and all that) somewhere around $7k, give or take. Bob'sWatches supposedly gives a good ballpark. Good breakdown of some what makes particular vintage models popular here: http://www.watchtime.com/blog/fratello-friday-buying-new-vs-vintage-rolex/ and a good breakdown of the GMT here: http://www.gmtmasterhistory.com/gmt-master_ref_6542.html

I have the hour hand set local, with the bezel "home", or triangle at the 12 o'clock position, the second time zone (green hand) is set to GMT, but because the timezone I'm typically interested in is GMT -7, I rotate the bezel 7 clicks clockwise and now the green hand references GMT -7. Feel like I just said "GMT" and not much else in that explanation, hope that makes sense and is what you were looking for. Its my first and only dual time zone watch, so the 24 clicks make sense to me because I'm limited to hour measurements. But yeah, I guess I can't use the bezel to time minutes/seconds elapsed.

@sevenhelmet is that the X-33 Skywalker? Love the old X-33 and its served me well, but the new Skywalker is dirty.

Really digging these vintage railroad grade pocket watches with wind indicators...good for car cruise-in events with my '07 Ford Police Interceptor [P71]...nobody drives a cop car and nobody wears vintage railroad grade pocket watches...except for me. :D

My 23j Waltham Vanguard 1908 w/ wind indicator [c. 1929] and 23j Elgin B.W. Raymond 494 w/ wind indicator [c. 1933] at the cruise-in...

Yep. I guess it was a little dirty. I normally keep the crystal cleaner than this:

Looks great! You need a @mad dog approved NASA EVA strap and wear it outside your nomex sleeve. The guys in the ready room will be jealous!

Goes well with the incandescent lighting in the yoke mounted clipboard!
Thanks, man.

We'll see how the incandescent lighting works today for Waltham Wednesday...taking my Dad's 21j Ruby [c. 1928] flying for the first time accompanied by my 23j Vanguard 1908 [c. 1929].

Preflighting my Dad's Ruby earlier by carefully removing the band my Dad had on it and installing a Raine Inc. protective band which has a retractable cover. My Dad's Ruby has enamel inlay numerals on the outer bezel so I'd like to protect it from various watch foes that loiter in the pointy end...

...just a little OCD in your mental attic?
Speaking of just a little OCD...I just dead headed from CVG to MCO to fly the plane back to CVG...anyway, do you see what I'm pointing at in the pic below? It's a freaking humongous IP (Irish Pennant) attached to the passenger seat in front of me...drove me BONKERS the whole flight down to MCO...tried to yank it out but it's that ridiculously strong nylon upholstery thread...NO JOY!!! After over 30 years since AOCS where the severity of existing IPs was introduced by Gunnery Sergeant Jones United States Marine Corps, IPs continue to drive me BONKERS!!!

I'm not OCD...I went through AOCS. :D

How often do units do watch buys? As a budding Naval Aviator, I'd love to grab something cool when I wing, but I think it'd be even cooler to get a watch at my first unit, or maybe it would "mean more" to me. But I also don't want to find out I've been saving up for a group buy and not buy for 6 years.

Something like this.

Depends on the Squadron. Smaller squadrons like a VMA or VFA seem to have more luck making it happen because they need to convince fewer people. Both of my squadrons were 50+ people and it was impossible to get people to commit.

Plus, you can never have too many watches. Get one at winging and maybe one from your gun squadron(s). And then maybe another one or two that happen to strike your fancy. You need to do something with that money you'll save on cruise.
