Some sort of Wilga. The gear are a giveaway, but the engine cowl doesn't look right. It's like a Mooney intake, maybe for a Continental engine.

Sharp eye - it's a "2008 EADS PZL WARSZAWA-OKECIE SA PZL-104MA WILGA 2000" according to FlightAware. Clearly it lives in the STOL environment and even comes equipped with a fancy new glider tow hitch near the tail wheel. Check out those massive doors - plus it has a 'Spitfire-style' circular yoke and leather seats to top it all off..

I take that back, it is, in fact, a Navy designated F-4G and here's why.
Because of the added electronic hardware the "G" had the 70 gal fuel tank removed from right behind the RO's seat. That's about 500lbs less fuel you had to consider.
I was the PAO/Squadron Historian when I was in VF-213 78-81. Had to do a butt-load of research and "finding photos" (many thanks to Mr. Bob Lawson of Tailhook…) for our 25th Anniversary Squadron Reunion (Established 1955). It was these airplanes: "In January-March 1964, the 10 VF-96 planes were transferred to VF-213. On March 31, 1964, the NATC aircraft were redesignated F-4G, and the VF-213 aircraft followed suit on April 6. The F-4Gs of VF-213 were operated aboard the USS KITTY HAWK in the Gulf of Tonkin from November 1965 until June of 1966. One (150645) was lost to North Vietnamese AAA…" that were painted in an experimental "jungle green" scheme for that cruise. I believe other squadrons did the same as well…I recall seeing photos of jungle-green Intruders from the same cruise. Obviously, little came from that particular experiment.

Random weird shit at PAX. Guessing some sort of radar cross section testing. Taken about 8 years ago.

Facility for Antennae and RCS Measurements (FARM). Facilities used to be located at NADC/NAWC Warminster, PA until BRAC in the 90s consolidated NAVAIR at Pax.

Saw that about 7 years ago on the fam vaca. Wondered what the heck that was for. I believe it's built on the same site as some really old base housing that was knocked down where I was there in the 90's.

I'm with NAVAIR. I'm here to help you.

23 February 1945: Four days after the initial landings on Iwo Jima, 1stLt Harold G. Schrier led 40 men from Company E, 2d Battalion, 28th Marines, up Mt. Suribachi to secure the crest and raise the small American flag that battalion commander LtCol Chandler Johnson had given Schrier. Within an hour, the patrol reached the rim of the crater. After a short fire-fight with Japanese defenders emerging from several caves, the small American flag was attached to an iron pipe and raised over the island.

(Yes, I know this is the second flag raising and not aviation related.)

Due to our det site, I get to spend more time than the average bear living and working on the airfield there. If you hang outside long enough or go for a drive off the beaten path, you get to see some weird stuff that you don't normally see at your average NAS.
