It's the 50th Anniversary of the Marine Corps KC-130 Hercules.

If you're interested in learning more about the half-century of service of this aircraft, there's a research project underway, and a production company is soon to release a documentary film.

Here's their website:

If you're on Facebook, there's also a Marine Battleherks page:

With the Centennial of Naval Aviation this year, hopefully this project will find a large audience.

Semper Fi,

That is just awesome. Hard to believe it has been flying as long as it has. Makes me proud to fly such a badass aircraft with such history!

Except that your birds are right off the assembly line.

My 45-year old chariot is, no shit, the original 45-year old airframe.

So does it make it less of a C-130 then? At least my fresh off the assembly line airplanes will be flying in 45 years :)

Touche. (Though I'd be willing to bet that the -107 will still be logging 45 years from now...)

I think history will show that we got several aircraft "right" over the years: C-130, C-17, B-52, H-47, H-46, and H-60, to name a few.

^ Hey, don't forget the mighty Orion! The P-3 first flew in 1959 and hit the fleet in 1962. That's half a century of Warpig goodness.

What are you mumbling about??? :icon_zbee

Yet you drink my beer and want more. Which looks like it might either be Friday evening 2/25 or Sunday evening 2/27.

Wait, how can it be a C-130 if your only EP is "Control-Alt-Delete"? ;)

Of course the C-130 first flew for a few years before the Marine variant...the prototype flew 23 Aug 1954 and deliveries began in Dec 1956.

And agree on getting the design right...it has been called the most successful airframe design in history (by Lockheed Martin, of course) due to the widespread use by various countries and the number of variants made (and many, many missions).

That's a good one, I haven't heard that one before! You legacy guys think you're so cool :) Is your station getting J's anytime soon?
