And the usual cockpit arrangement is PIC in left seat, stud in right seat, SNFO in jumpseat. Miscellaneous cats and dogs in back, who may or may not do the inflight Chinese fire drill seat swap depending on the syllabus event.

The names were released earlier today in this article, but I guess they have since taken them off. This has definitely been a tough year and my thoughts and prayers are with their families.

Actually, PNJ's earlier article had the names of the last T-39 crew to crash in that area, back in 2006, but the way they worded the article made it sound like it was the crew from yesterday. It confused me too the first time I read it, until I remembered seeing those names on the memorial in our squadron bar.

@A4s: Did the BN students in the Tic actually nav/do comms, or were they strictly focusing on practicing bombing runs?

The names earlier today were copied from an AJC article referencing the last T-39 accident in 2006; the PNJ must have edited it to avoid implying those were the crew from yesterday.

With some of the comments in other articles about "loud dangerous jets buzzing my house every week etc etc" it's good to see this reporter at least took the time to explain the reason why we train: http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Milita...9N-jet-crash-Why-train-with-low-level-flights
Level-headed commentary, something the CSM is usually very good at. I was glad they took the time to inject a voice of reason into the usual media fiasco. At least the print sources, unlike TV, don't expect Jesse Joe Bubba from Hicksville to offer cogent commentary on the latest mishap. Threats or no, training at low level is a priceless exercise in CRM for all aviators, young and old. If you stay in the middle of the air, the middle of the envelope, and avoid the edges of both, you're useless in anything but the most benign environments.

Edit: posted without seeing Swamees link.

Zach was a typical band kid, lanky goofy but an all around awesome guy. I never heard a mean word out of him in 4 years at school. This is a kick in the nuts. He will be missed.

Charlie Mac was the man! Great guy to fly with. Great stick and very friendly. Always remembered all 4 of my kids names and always wanted to know how they were doing. Damn it what a loss!
