Five anti-war protesters were able to cut through a perimeter fence around Naval Base Kitsap and walk around the base undetected for four and a half hours. The group included three people in the 60's and three in their 80's.

so... 6+6=5???

There goes that articles credibility (at least in my eyes.)

The group was protesting the nuclear weapons kept at the base and hoped to get as close to them as possible.

At least you were right about the retard part.

Errrr.....aahhhh......pot <> kettle......

Just saying....

BTW...they are lucky the Marines didn't shoot their asses. They would have been justified to do so.

It's Calculon! Hit the deck!
O

It's very true, but if 5 (or 6?) retards in their 60's/80's manage to sneak through a base for 4.5 hours, who are the real retards? Them or the base security?

I was just wondering about that. How in the world did a bunch of old folks get around undetected for so long?

I probably would have shot them and disposed of the bodies just so I didn't look like the JACKASS that got embarrassed by 6 senior citizens.

Really? I'm sure there's a Commissary or NEX on that base, which means old retirees are drawn there like moths to a light bulb.:D

It's also not a stretch to think that some of the old folks would get confused and wander around the base for a while, looking for their cars. Or something. Probably happens all the time. It's like using native camouflage, really. Now, if it were a group of skateboarding teens, or motorcyclists without reflector vests, I bet base security would have been there in a matter of seconds.:D:sleep_125

I'm just impressed that a few 80 year olds would get together and say..."I've got an idea...let's climb through some cut fences to protest nuclear weapons like we did during WWII..."

I hope they get their time in prison and there's no leniency for their age...f'n justice system.

I am stationed at the base, there were 5 of them that cut through the fence, plus one person who was the driver, hence the 5 people and 6 people thing.
They were age 60-85 I belive, jesuit religion (don't quote me on that). They cut through 2 fences to try to throw red paint ballons on nukes, they spread sunflower seeds on the ground as they went. They have already been released, and banned from military situations. We were on security violation, no one could go down to the submarines, for over 6 hours while they looked for the vehicle and anyone else on the base. What saved them from being shot was, they were not near any nuclear missiles, however if they were I seriously doubt they would be alive today. Just getting to work to do my job, as a first class in the navy, is hard enough. We are always told, don't argue with the marines because they have authorization to shoot us.
I think it is rediculous they basically got their hand slapped, but I am sure you could imagine the image of the navy, if old priests and priestesses were either shot or sent to jail for spreading sunflowers all over the ground.
Just so everyone is not confused or thinks the story is fake ;o)

I'd be interested if these idiots actually thought they'd get anywhere near the nukes. No matter how naiive or clueless, you'd think it might occur to them that nuclear weapons are protected by more than a chain-link fence, and that those 'deadly force authorized' signs might actually mean it.

Anyway - haven't been to Kitsap, but from what i saw at King's Bay...well, to keep it on the unclass, getting on base is one thing. There's no way in hell anyone without authorization is getting even remotely close to special weapons storage, Trident facility, etc.

But whatever. These folks made their point...whatever the hell it was...and have presumably replenished their supply of smug self-righteousness and felt like they stuck it to The Man just like back in the day. They'll be heroes to the commune again. The AT-FORCEPRO officer is going to get a frowny face on his fitrep.
