Whats the current wait for Primary out of API?

Wow, that sounds like things could quickly get out of control if all of the incoming students from API have to be classed up ASAP. I'm getting ahead of myself but is there something students should be doing to avoid getting wrapped up in this vicious circle?

Take every available opportunity to drink and go to the beach. You are in Pensacola getting paid to sit on your ass. This will NEVER happen again.

Wait at Whiting

The wait at whiting is looking to be about 4-6 weeks right now for Navy SNAs to class up for Ground School. In our squadron (VT-3), people have been waiting a while (3-4 weeks sometimes) before starting FAMs.

Think maybe I'll avoid spending too much time at the beach... I really should study a little for that aero test on monday... I'll definitely do the whole drinking beach thing during that 4-6week wait for primary though!:icon_zbee

Okay, one more question to anyone out there willing to answer it... (preferable those who have recently gone to Whiting or have some insight that I don't... which is most people on this sight at this point)

Alright here it is:

Once you completed API, when do you report to the Training Wing, during the last week of API or the Monday after? Once you do, what should I expect that first day... something to the effect of "here's a stack of books you'll need to read, here are the days you have watch, complete these 19 NKO courses, we'll see you tomorrow" or is there more/less to it? In short I'm wondering what the first week after API is generally like.

So is the main problem here that you just can't train pilots fast enough because of un-controllable variables, ie Wx, or that they are giving too many pilot slots out?

You'll check in on the day (maybe the day after...it's been a year for me) you graduate API. You'll go through the typical Navy check-in garbage...and then spend 2-8 weeks (again..may have changed so YMMV) mustering daily, PTing with the man a few times a week, and mostly drinking heavily/golfing. It's nothing to have an aneurysm about.

And to those of us blessed ones heading to Vance, what can we expect?

Torp,
you'll check in, maybe have to muster everyday and go to the gym at the worst, then be done for the day. depending on when they have room for you, you might sit for 6-9 weeks, or start up in less than 2. They start classes every 3 weeks. The first 6 weeks are API redux. It's easy, don't worry about the tests just take your 85% and pass. Hitting the flight line blows, but just tell yourself you get to go fly a badass airplane, have another sip on that kool aid, and enjoy as much as you can. It is a shit place to be, but I made some great friends and had as much fun as they'd let me get away with in the nid. Corpus blows after awhile, too. so don't feel like you missed too much.

Dude, it is so fucking complex that they have a special room full of dudes with chalkboards and formulas and computers and excel and all kinds of shit who are paid millions to figure this shit out. Guess what. They still fuck it away just about every year.
There has been a perfect storm of weather, maintenance issues, and slowdowns in production. This too shall pass. Just show up when required, know your shit, and keep your nose clean and you won't even notice the difference. Let the man sweat those details.

I was one of the dudes in that room 2004-05. You don't even want to know the level of detail (i.e. pain). The monday morning quarterbacking from the boot ensigns is ricockilous. "Fuck it away" is way of the mark my E6 brother:) From aviation accessions to FRS slots, the numbers are programmed 5 yrs in advance. Long term manning changes causes a knee jerk change in the pipeline to adjust. Adding or subtracting one body affects fleet seats two years down the line. Most, if not all of you, are way out of your league even guessing how it works. If you really think you know better ask to go to TW-5 instead of mustering. Ask for Don, Monty, or Ed in the NAPP office. Tell them Boyd sent you and you can save the world. I give you one day and you will happily be back in the pool.

Changes in the numbers create pools. Although the Navy doesn't desire them, you will learn they can be some of the best times of your young career. Enjoy the wait while you can...you will miss it.

Along the same lines of this thread.. Whats the current wait for primary up at whiting? Im graduating API mid April and need to take leave around mid May for personal reasons. If the wait time is long enough, is it pretty easy to take leave while pooled?
