Not speculating, but does the military release causes of crashes like the FAA does when they're finished investigating?
There are two investigations that are conducted by the military when there is a mishap. An AMB (Aviation Mishap Board), and a JAGMAN. The JAGMAN is releasable, whereas the SIR (results of the AMB) are not.

And you should have the opportunity to see/hear AMB results if the mishap affects your community, though this is of course privileged info that will not be released to the general public.

that sux,
my wife flew out to havelock n.c. to bury her grandpa today who was also a marine (p.o.w. in vietnam). that won't really help make her feel any better about me going to flight school....it seems like we are loosing birds all the time, marine in california, the two 18's that collided in the gulf, and know this? (that's 3 18's and a harrier)

quick question, is it like this all the time, or am i just noticeing more because i am getting really close to flight school.

They weren't talking about the Marine. The thread got jacked into a discussion of mishap rates and such with some side jokes on that subject. That's actually a more valuable takeaway than the usual speculation on mishap causes that these threads usually spawn or the bullshit "prayers for the family" posts people put out for someone they didn't know. Unfortunately, the trigger for the discussion (and the jokes) was an announcement of the mishap. Nonetheless, I'd rather see some talk about how the next mishap could be prevented than lingering on the last.

If you think I should split the thread, I will. Sorry about your buddy. I know more dead people than any 35-year-old should, so I know what you're talking about here. I don't think anyone meant any disrespect, so swallow your emotional response and say where you'd rather have the thread do, or should we put a stick up in the forum stating,"no discussion of aviation mishaps?"

Well stated. I'm just numb and i don't know what to do. Semper Fi.
