FY10 STA-21 Applicants gather round!

Just finished the first week of NSI. So far it's a lot easier than expected. All we are required to memorize right now are the General Orders. Recommend the May class log into NKO and complete the requried courses for NSI for this fiscal year. (Browse Categories, DON, OTC, NSI) If you completed any of the courses before Oct 09 you will be required to do it again. Some things to bring that are not on the website: Laundry Detergent, Mop and Glo, Starch, Raincoat, Black Leathers OR Chlorofram's (sp), Navy PT gear including Smurfs (bring as many pairs as you have because this is what we are wearing for the first two weeks and they get dirty quick) Watch Cap, SHOWER SHOES, shirt stays if you prefer them, hangars, black AND WHITE shoe polish. If you dont have the official uniform items listed above they will be issued to you and it will be deducted from your clothing allowance....so the more you bring the more you save.

Didnt somebody post not too long ago that chlorofram shoes were not authorized there? or am I imagining things? I'm bringing both pairs anyway. We sure def. appreciate the post, good lookin out!!!!

I was wondering if anyone else was having a hard time finishing up their degree plans. I have two schools that seem to be dragging their feet. It is seriously killing me!

I had that problem with SUNY Maritime hence the reason im going to The citadel. i have still not gotten my updated degree plan from SUNY. I heard a few people had some problems with those guys up there. I got some inside info that some 20 guys are coming to The Citadel this time around. Lookin forward to meeting everyone as NSI!

Yes someone did say that however NSI is run by a new CoC this year... They will run the summer session and the two NSI classes next year as well. According to them we are authorized to wear Chloroframs but bringing both wouldn't hurt. For those that asked about the raincoat and peacoat: the raincoat is the same and I recommend bringing it, the peacoat has gold buttons and epaluats (sp) so it is different however we were not issued a peacoat.

NSI is crazy hard. A guy died yesterday. They made us burry the body behind the barracks using spoons. I tired to DOR and they wouldnt let me. Week 2 day 2... the only easy day was yesterday.

Ravenhollow. didnt we just learn about opsec. Loose lips sink ships!!!!

Obviously you were not paying attention in the OPSEC brief because the code of conduct and persribed uniform items are not a breach of OPSEC shipmate. I'm trying to help out the next NSI class by saving them some valuable time and money. I'm pretty sure telling them to bring their raincoat will not cause or assista terrorist attack.

Congratulations ravenhollow. You just successfully removed all the humor out of the situation. Add "a sense of humor" as one of the recomended things to bring to NSI.

Looks like orders have been requested for the second class!

Has anyone in the second group actually received Orders yet? My CCC was saying it only takes about two weeks to get them, and its been about that long...

How is everyone doing? I am READY to GO! Trying not to get sloppy at work, but I catch myself 4-5 times a day staring at the computer, thinking about flying...

Oh by the way...you still have AT LEAST one year until you commission (depending on how much college you have). Catch yourself napping now and you are going to become one of those OC's who think "they've made it" and there's nothing left for them to accomplish. Let me tell you now, school is no joke man. Grand total of my friends from NSI who didn't make it: 4

I know how you feel. I've been checking everyday. I was hoping that they would be out today so I wouldn't be thinking about them constantly on leave for the next week and a half.

For those of you waiting for orders...I know in general, they are backed up on cutting orders to people. I would guess the same folks are cutting your orders. I believe last week I heard that they just started on cutting May orders. (My command has a lot of people PCS'ing soon and a lot of issues that involve talking to the detailer a lot, so thats where my info comes from - I'm waiting on orders to PCS in July and was told not to expect them any time soon and to prepare for a quick turnaround time of moving and such once I have them)

Are we supposed to reenlist on our own prior to NSI? I figured we would just do it there...

Rob,

When you receive your hard copy orders... (from the package): 9. Obligated Service. Prior to execution of orders to NSI, you must sign a 6‑year active service obligation. You can do this by either extending or reenlisting, as necessary. DO NOT reenlist/extend prior to having PCS orders in hand. See paragraph 14 for information regarding Selective Reenlistment Bonuses (SRB).

Hope it helps...
