Naval build-up in the Gulf?

Middle East Times

I can't vouch for the source, but thoughts? Seems to be interesting timing, given Russia's current involvement in Georgia, considering that they have been a traditional power balance to Western policy in the Middle East region (including Iran).

I don't know anything about this publication, but this article seems a little far-fetched to me. If anything, I would think the presence of French fighters on the Roosevelt is a sign this task force isn't on the warpath. And the implication that Russian forces in the Med might get involved strikes me as a bit sensationalist.

Someone floats this crap every single time a new battle group deploys to the Gulf. Every time they leave port, there's sensationalist reporting about a "massive Naval buildup" and Navy ships leaving for the Gulf "loaded for war". (maybe because, I dunno, we've got a war or two going on?) Every time the boats do a turnover in the Gulf, it's "the US added another carrier to its Gulf armada". You know how many times some yahoo, in which I include some major media outlets, has reported that "the increase in American Naval forces means an imminent strike on Iran"?

Bottom line, most media people just don't understand how far in advance Navy deployments are planned, or how a deployment even works. Sure as hell Joe Blogger doesn't know. At best, it's ignorance, at worst, it's simple sensationalism.

The sub guys must get massive boners ever time somebody refers to their ride as a "Nuclear hunter-killer" submarine.

HA!

Terrible editing in that second article, BTW.

So what's broken on this jet today, Chief?

It sounds pretty far-fetched to me, and do we even allow other countries aircraft to fly off our carriers? I was under the impressions the weights and such were done to such a small margin of error it would be difficult to have aircraft not specifically designed for our carriers flying off them.

I am pretty sure I have read in several places that the French canceled out on the war games in the Atlantic. Could be wrong though
