I searched and couldn't find it, so I don't know if it's a repost. I just got this emailed to me - apparently, Salty Sam has a blog since he can no longer use The Log as his sounding board. My favorite quote:

The Supe also announced that liberty will not be granted even if Navy defeats a BCS team this year and/or Jesus Christ returns, which ever comes first.

I'd been looking around for this, thanks. The Log was canceled/stopped about a year before I showed up there in 2002, but 3/C year I managed to recon 3 back issues from the 1997/1998 time. Part of me wants to say I'm shocked "they" would do away with this, but after seeing/being on the receiving end of countless other "ideas," I'm not shocked at all.

Annapolis, MD (WTF). VADM Fowler today issued a statement via his command judge advocate general (JAG) that the Academy is seriously considering cancelling this year's Army-Navy football game. VADM Fowler's statement explained that the game's proximity to final exams and the Christmas holiday was causing a lot of angst in the Brigade and might "serve as a distraction". He further explained that although the decision might be unpopular, his job is "not to do the popular thing but rather the right thing."

The Superintendent emphasized that this move was not unprecedented. "In 1917 and 1918, the Army-Navy game was not played due to WWI. What better way to reinforce the fact that we're at war than to cancel the Army-Navy game?" The Admiral's statement stressed that the decision was not final, but an Academy spokesman said "I wouldn't be booking any rooms in Baltimore if I were you."

That was classic! Things like that are very like the Supe's comments in the beginning of the year (when the article was published).

This is a great site I never saw -- I think it's pretty underground, because no one I know has seen it -- and not only that, we just had a Feeddown Question about The Log and it said for now to settle on The Navy Fork.

When did The Navy Fork start? I graduated 2 years ago and have never even heard of it. Salty Sam wipes his ass with it anyway.

I'm not even an alum, and I thought it was a pretty funny blog.

If I weren't active duty right now I would say that anyone on senior leadership that would go after whatever mid does that blog should be kicked in the nuts. Of course since I am active duty I would never say that because that could be construed as insubordinate so I will just say that some people need a sense of humor.

I have been happily divorced from mother B for almost 2 years. But blocking AW to current mids wouldn't surprise me in the least. Its only a matter of time until Ward Hall is as bad as NMCI.

How strict is the boat school when it comes to tunneling through their filters? And consequences with tunneling NMCI?

Well, in 2004/2005 they banned Facebook. (A social network for high school and college students - for those who dont know) After a period of a couple of month of backlash they decided it wasnt as bad as they thought. They never had a problem with anything like Myspace, or Collegehumor, or YouTube, where mids post some crazy clips of things like mattress jousting!!!

Some of the policy decisions, just dont make much sense.

During reform of my 1/C year (August 2005) the administration thought it was necessary to hold a mass facebook adjudication (800+ midshipmen) for all of those whose facebooks' profiles consisted of anything "unprofessional," to include personal quotes, pictures, groups, etc. It basically evolved into a "shame on you" lecture in Mahan Hall, with about half of the accused falling asleep anyway, and with everyone leaving just laughing their ass off at the absurdity of such a waste of time. At this time I stopped taking any of their threats seriously. I can't speak for anything recent, but I have talked to guys from '08 and they say alot more sites are restricted than they were just a couple years ago. Can any mids elaborate?

Well, you missed the joys of the Websense filter. They block all porn sites, plus anything else that might fall under the category of "tasteless." It's not too hard to get around, especially during high traffic times, but it is pretty annoying. Every so often they'll block legit sites. Example: Steeljaw Scribe's blog was filtered as tasteless, I had to submit a request to get it opened up again. They've eased off on Facebook though, I haven't heard of anyone getting fried for it since the infamous fry day you mentioned.
