You went to Goodwood? That's awesome! I've always wanted to go to the "Festival of Speed."

Actually, I technically worked there for 6 months at the super-luxury car manufacture on the south side of Lord March's estate (aka Goodwood).

Unfortunately, I missed the Festival of Speed by a week! I was pretty bummed by that, but the Revival is still awesome. Think monterey historics racing with period dress. It really is like stepping back in time.

From the air, Afghanistan always looked like Nevada to me... lots of dry sandy stretches with beautiful mountains and occasional green patches. Fewer casinos and hookers.

What's up with the masks the aircrew wear? I've also seen them Naval Aviation News (I think it was that one) when they were showing off the new Huey/Cobra pair. Does it have an O2 supply, or merely just to keep the dust out while talking on the radio/ICS, because it looks like a pretty tight fit.

It's a wind guard so that you can understand what's being said. Helos have lots of wind noise and makes it really hard to hear anything when one of the crewman has 100 knots of wind blowing in his mic.

It's a wind guard so that you can understand what's being said. Helos have lots of wind noise and makes it really hard to hear anything when one of the crewman has 100 knots of wind blowing in his mic.

It also helps to keep the dust and debris to a min for the aircrew. Standard visor sucks when you do TERF landings, that's why a lot of AWs will wear some form of goggles.

Oh, and it can get cold. Sticking your face out of the gunners window when it's 0 deg outside sucks.

I've never seen a pilot wear the face shield. But I have known a few people who like to use their "serious" voice over the radio, which always ends up sounding like a mouth full of marbles.

One of my PL's voice over the net coincided almost perfectly with the squelch frequency on the fox mike. Couldn't understand a damn thing she said the entire flight when I flew with her- and she wasn't wearing one of the masks. They actually make crew dogs easier to understand- and yes, they are used for dust and wind mitigation, no O2. Some of our guys have grotesque faces painted on them, you should see passenger's reactions to them Very rarely do Hooks have MBUs and masks, even in Afghanistan.
