No ALOHA in PARADISE Today ...

It has been a real bad week. How bad? It's been so bad that I've put my dream of becoming an airline pilot on the shelf for good this time. Over the past year I've spent thousands on getting suits, interview and sim prep, my ATP, and all of the other things you do to prepare for the jump from military life to civilian life. This of course is not including the 10+years of my adult life preparing for this.

Everything is shut down. Hiring has stopped, and the pool times have gone way way up. FDX is saying summer 2010 now, and there is no telling with Continental. I guess I could still keep my apps in with CX and some of the contracting companies for JAL or ANA, but that seems hopeless too.

Timing is everything in getting a job like this, and my timing sucks.

I took a huge risk in not putting a promotion package in and trying to get out, and it has soundly blew up in my face. Now, I've got to put in a promotion package and hope they let me stay in this next board.

My heart truly goes out to the pilots, crews, and families of Aloha, Skybus, ATA, Midwest, Sun Country, Maxjet, and the others that have gone away in 2008. Damn this is bad.

The loss of ATA has shut down AMC contract flights -- if anyone was supposed to be on them in the near future -- you might want to talk with SATO...

The loss of ATA has shut down AMC contract flights --...

That's the first thing I thought of when I heard ATA shut down. ATA was a pretty integral part of the contract AMC mission. Anyone know if we'll simply increase demand for North American,World,Omni and Atlas to replace the gap ATA leaves or try to find another carrier for the contract mission?

Been on a trip... Can't believe nobody mentioned that 'Frontier' declared bankruptcy...

And things here are getting rocky:
Our CDG (paris) domicile has been cancelled.
All DC-10 grounded or in conversion by FEB 09.
Seven 727 back to the leasing companies.
Sell rather than convert two airbus A/Cs.
Cutting back BLD (Bid Line Guarantee).
Excessing 727, DC-10, and maybe Bus.
AGE 60 to Age 65 w/ retro clause.

The Good:
Buying and converting 757s.
Expecting 30 (15+15 option) 777s down the road.
So far Cargo has done well surviving Oil Prices/Resession.
Still Opening and about (20) vacancies for HKG (Hong Kong) domicile.
