Maybe the pilot heard hitting the last brick took just as much awesome skill as hitting the first brick.

We do 0 deg flap takeoff in DC-9 all the time.
Q: If flaps are up, does that prevent the plane from rotating into takeoff attitude?
Ya that was my first comment before I edited it, although having not been in a 737 in about 7 years (and that only being the type rating course), the setting is a function of weight, runway length etc. Someone with more/recent experience can chime in.
Nose wasn't there a huge accident at DTW a number of years ago caused by an NWA DC-9 taking off with zero flaps set?
