All I know is if this happens now I can get frequent flyer miles on UAL and Delta! Yaay merger!

460 (United) + 370 = 830 aircraft fleet... wow

It is not number of aircraft that are important to the average flyer, it is the routes and number of flights on those routes.

For example: UAL flies LAX - JFK 3x per day. Delta flies LAX - JFK 4x per day (these are not actual numbers). Would the merged airline fly LAX - JFK 7x per day? My guess would be "No". So net benefit to the average flyer would be in the "minus" category.

Yes, and a number of other regulatory investigations/approvals.

As to the combined size, they will not only not serve all the same markets with the combined frequency, but they will shed aircraft as well.

My dad is a Delta 777 captain. Will need to ask him if I can now fly standbye on United too!

Not the combo I though would happen, but interesting. I wouldn't get your stand-by tickets ready yet loadtoad, it is just an investors proposal at this stage. Long ways to go before that...

ALSO ...... 23 years ago, a merger between NWA and Delta missed happening by $.25 per share price disagreement and who would be the last executive "management" team standing when the dust settled .... today, IMO, the strongest merge candidates, domestic AND international, would still be Delta and NWA.

DAL's CEO is Richard Anderson. He has only been there for a few months. He is pretty damn bright - He left the CEO job at NWA in '04 to go to a VP job at United Health Care. For a compensation package worth twice as much as he was getting at NWA.

As far as current airline CEO's go (with Kelleher and Bethune gone), he's about the only one worth a she-ite.

I stand corrected. If he left NWA for better money, then why did he come back to the airline industry?
