Stinky's Reserve Saga/Blog/Helpful Hints

That's how long it took.

I just received an email from the CO, my 4th MAW package has been approved and HMM-774 is authorized to run me on the unit diary in a DIFOP status. Dunker and RAG are still TBD at this point.

Another gotcha that isn't as time consuming: My career retirement credit report is jacked up. It has nothing credited past August 1, 2002. Luckily, I have all the FITREPS/NAVMC 763/DD-214's that I need to prove that yes, I was on active duty that entire time. I'm assuming that the best place to start is with the squadron's S-1 shop and go from there.

I figure as fast as this process has taken, I should see the SMCR bonus sometime around the squadron's transition to V-22's. No biggie.

The only other gotcha involves billeting for my first Reserve weekend. I have a dependent's ID card (no reserve one yet) and no orders, so it's safe to say that the Q is out. Time to call Bearclaw and see if I can crash in his Q room, or what he did when he rolled up for his first drill weekend.

It's about damn time!! :D

Some more gotchas

First drill weekend complete. No problems, ended up getting the ID card prior to heading down - and the rooms were block rooms reserved by the squadron S-4. I felt a bit like a penguin (flightless bird), but I did get a lot done. Now for the bad part.

First, HQMC put me in the system as a reservist - but never changed my duty status from separation. So, I still haven't gotten paid for the drills yet - luckily the S-1 is on top of it, and is working with HQMC to get it corrected. I was also run as DIFDEN vice DIFOP in the diary, but that is a change that can be made by the unit. That's important to check (and you can find all that stuff in MOL) because you can't go to the RAG to refresh unless you're DIFOP.

I was able to get checked in, and get signed up for the dunker in Norfolk 4-5 Jun. Once those dates were confirmed, I was able to submit a TAD request for the RAG. I should be departing Jun 8th from BWI. I already called ahead and got a certificate of non-availability, so hello oceanfront condo!! They advertise 63 days for the RAG, but I expect that it will take less time. From what I understand, even though refreshers are not priority - we can still sweet talk them into double pumping us.

Still trying to figure out dates for ASO school...

If you're interested, I have dates going all the way to Oct...which isn't that far.

Out of curiosity, how far out should I request a school seat?!? What's driving the timeline is PSW's LCDR board results...

I have no idea. However, for COMNAVRESFOR, there are empty slots starting in Sep. I don't have Marine numbers. My data is also several weeks old. The board results won't come out until August/Sep-ish. I'm sure she knows that, just sayin'.

I looked on the website, and only could pull dates and total number of seats. Since the results were released Jul 26th last year, I'm hoping that we're PCS'ing by end of Sept, and hopefully ASO school Oct or Nov. Here's hoping.

Reserve Bonus: Paid.
First Drill Pay: Paid.

When's the last time anyone on here saw a hard check that said "US Treasury" for military pay?!? Yep - the saga continues. Even though everything in the system SAYS I should be getting direct deposit, I'm not. We've re-run everything, but it could turn into a giant pain in the ass when I'm in CA... I guess time will tell.

Norfolk tomorrow and Thursday for the dunker. I should leave Sunday sometime after 1400 for 164. I may just have to take a picture when back in the cockpit, because all will be right with the world...
