Here's a dumb question. If I'm heading to OCS in August, are they going to make us buy summer whites, or just SDBs, or both?

I was sorta figuring we'd end up buying both and wearing both between August and November.

You'll buy all your uniforms there.

Winter stand down is for the staff only. Classes are expected to PT and attend all academic classes and drill functions as normal per the weekly schedule. Your class president picks one person each day to act in the capacity of the DI and give the approriate drill commands/RPT/etc. You still get Sundays off. Remember, discipline is what you do when no one else is looking....

I'm kinda surprised about that... seems like it would make it a lot less stressful, not that I'm complaining.

Right, but what I meant was will we be expected to make the summer to fall uniform transition from whites to blues, or will they pick with one and stick with it?
You'll make the transition when the command does.

A question regarding attrition. I wasn't aware you could attrite and end up at Great Lakes. What causes this (like being RLP rolled 4 times?) and is it common? My packet was just completed so I haven't seen the contract or anything, but do you have an option to quit if you are attrited?

That is a last resort. It is typically for folks who owe the Navy a lot of money. BDCP'ers are subject to this. They aren't trying to get you out of OCS..it would have to come from you wanting to quit.

It is also dependent of what your designator is. Big Navy really needs Nukes right now. I saw guys wanting to leave but they simply just held them in Student Pool until they decided to change their minds.

This shouldn't even be in your thought process. Just graduate, it's the quickest way out of Newport, Rhode Island.

Don't quit, make an effort, and they won't attrite you. I only saw one guy get kicked out, and it was because he made no effort to play by the rules. He openly accused one DI of being a racist...and all kinds of other shenanigans. You have to TRY to get kicked out of OCS.

I've compiled both an official and an unofficial list of things to bring to OCS in accordance with what I've read on these boards, USNavyOCS, and what's on the official website, of this list, can you gentlemen help me discern what I will need to bring with me from day one, what I will need for RLP and should set aside (leave in my car?) and what I will eventually need later on in the program? Basically I'm trying to figure out what stuff I need for RLP that must stay in pristine condition and trying to figure out how/where to stash it so that it stays in mint condition.

Maybe I'm nuking the issue...but I'd just like to know what needs to go where and when supplies-wise.

Oh I'm all in, just momentarily terrified of ending up as enlisted! I'm straight OCS anyways, so don't owe a penny.

Another random question, all the talk of going out to Boston in dress whites, I'll be there in the winter where obviously blues will be used, is it possible to still wear whites or is that forbidden?

No, IF you get to go, you'll go in Johnny Cash's...doesn't matter...the ladies love 'em just as well.

And if you're straight OCS and they want to attrite you, they'll send you home, not to Great Mistakes.

If they are getting rid of the cashes, then you will go into town wearing whatever liberty uniform they tell you to go in. I was issued whites and never wore them. Its all based on the season and the Navy. Why go out in whites anyways? Well, I know why, but im pretty sure they will get wrecked.

Just graduated this May as well. Packet all in, MEPS shortly and the waiting game! Are you still in EL?

Nope, I'm down in Florida at the moment. I've been in BDCP since my junior year and I'm just waiting to go to OCS next month.

Well, I mostly ask because SWCS was telling someone that she'd seen one of the recent classes at OCS wearing NWUs. I knew they were making the transition over the summer, but didn't know that it would be so soon. I was just curious because the NWU is supposed to do away with wash khakis and johnny cashes and it certainly wouldn't be a liberty uniform, hence my curiosity.
