Who wants to be an NFO?

That's not the point. The point is that if someone had a million dollars then they would pick NFO over pilot. I don't buy that. How many selection forms have been submitted that had NFO as their #1 choice and Pilot as the #2. I would say few to none.

Mine did.

But you don't see me pissin' in the wind about how the mean ole' pilots are hurting my feelings. I love what I do...if this thread is offending you it must suck to be so unhappy with your career choice. Maybe you should look into Avon, vacuum sales, or chilling the f@^k out and taking it like a man. They fling poo, we keep the trunk clean. Besides, they need us...who else are they gonna make fun of...those Steve Buchemi-looking types flying the Predator? Those fu^kers keep lists written in lipstick of dudes they want dead.

Anyway, if a pilot...er, Aviator, gives you shit just give him a banana or two. He'll settle right down.:D

@Flying Low: I think you overestimate how cool you think you are.

My being cool has nothing to do with me being a pilot.

This thread is not offending me. It is actually quite funny. If I can't make fun of you guys then who can I make fun of? Even my wife makes fun of Fo's and shoes. But it is all good. And judging from the tone of your post maybe you need to chill out. Find a way to relax, maybe spin some winds are something.

I had to read FMR's post a couple times, but I don't think he is directing those comments at you.

I chose NFO #1. Why does your wife make fun of FO's?

As a NFO, I have no problem taking crap from a winged pilot. Are you a winged Naval Aviator? Is your wife? Or is this just another case of a wanna-be and a cunt trying to be something they're not?

(Edit: To clarify, I'm not saying all wives are cunts.)

Even if I could go pilot (again, can't see shit), I don't think I would. Honestly, the job of an NFO really does appeal to me more.

Just posing a question here, but wouldn't you want an NFO in alot of platforms to have eyes as good as the pilots? In fighters for instance in BFM, wouldn't it be good to have a WSO with equal vision to spot bogeys?

You're forgetting that vision can be corrected in that case.

@ FlyingSlow: Me, chill? Brother, I invented the fuckin' word. Oh wait, A-4's probably did that with his limes and such...I just perfected it. Spin some winds? Damn, man. Good one. Seriously. By the way, are you winged yet? Is your wife? If not, STFU, SNA.

@HAL: Damn, THAT was a funny post, man. Seriously, spot on with your point.

@HH-60H: They weren't. Those above, however, are.

Thanks, the PSC was ruffling feathers...j/k :D

Oh, and in case you didn't see the TopGun interview.."Maverick" took the loss of his friend "Goose" quite seriously. You can see that even though he's smiling on the outside he's crying of pain on the inside.

WHY GOOOOOOOOSE! (sigh):(

Even in my advanced age, I imagine that still I have maybe "20-10's" (rarely), or at least "20-15's" (certainly) but still no less than "20-20" eyesight (truly). :)

Nevertheless, my 'blind' RIO's often did indeed spot bogies, missiles, adversary A4's, or even some occasional birthday kid's Mylar helium balloons, long before I did.:o

One of the best weapons systems the Navy ever developed was the RIO.

And one of my more memorable experiences was the time we had multiple SAM launch warnings and indeed actual SAM's in the air, just prior to roll-in on a major, and very important target. I would have – and should have aborted the strike, given the multiple threat indications.

But my (junior but experienced, and sharp-eyed) RIO says, "I got 'em all, just roll in Cat … I'll call " break" if needed." Having been flying together long, I trusted him thoroughly… with our lives. He could fly us verbally as well as I could fly physically. Result, great hits and many secondaries on an oil refinery, and a few SAM's passing by, no threat.

Also, venturing into 'Po, it was always good to have a big tough RIO in tow, the bigger the better; but in hostile skies any 'sized' RIO's were better than nothing. Size didn't matter, but in war, the best NFO's were better than gold!

And anyone who would want to denigrate my better partners who flew with me in harm's way and did 50% of the work, (but thought they did 60% :p ) I should and would justifiably want to cold-cock the arrogant upstarts…even today at my advanced age. We (pilot/RIO) were a team that not only made a better difference, but also saved each other's lives, perhaps other's too, and we made that difference…together.
