That's what the administrative guy in my OSO office told me...

I'm sure there's more than one board left before 196.

Everbody has a different story. This isn't the first time I heard that the board was in the early part of August. I hope it's earlier, I want to find if I get selected already. Why do you think you'll get pasted up for 197? Has your package gone to the board before?

I don't think I'm going to get passed up for 197. I would rather go to 196 b/c the ice and snow of Jan is going to suck, but there aren't any air slots left at my OSO office for 196. There is one more slot available for 197 for my location and they are giving me that one if I am selected. I am just trying to be optimistic about the unexpected. No, this will be the first time my package has gone before the board. Ya, I'm glad mine's going next week, I should hear something sometime in Aug.

See that's what I don't understand. I have never been told that we only have a select number of air slots for each OSO. They told me the reason I didn't get selected the last time was cause my PFT. Actually the Gunny I am working with said he didn't think that there was a set number of air slots. I know thats kinda hard to believe but sure does sound good.

Not true. There is in fact a defined number of slots that each OSO has available. There are always exceptions to it, like trading slots with other districts I know can be done. My OSO personally showed me their mission letter and the exact number of candidates they need for 196. He didn't want me to feel like I was getting screwed so he wanted to prove it to me. USMC HQ tells each district what they need, i.e. how many SNA's, NFO's, ground, Law, females, OCCr's, PLCr's, and so on. Then district HQ divides up the available seats to each OSO office. So for example, there was one SNA slot available for 196 here and a whole bunch of ground. There are two here for 197 and lots of ground. The administrative guy in my office was even asking me the other day if I knew anyone who was graduating, or has graduated and might be interesting in OCC cause they need one more OCCr to complete their goals. I didn't, however. So, in effect, there are only so many candidates that can be sent. Air slots are the most competitive right now because they are so limited. My OSO told me that the OCS CO wants only the best of the best for pilots right now, so he told me I have to provide a really, really strong package. Anyone else should do the same.

What was your PFT and when did you put your stuff in?

He probably didn't know, I doubt he would flat out lie like that. These aren't enlisted recruiters. They know they're dealing with people who can already think for themselves and not a bunch of stupid high school kids.

It was a 268 for the board back in May or June but now have a 280. I will run another next weekend and am hopefully trying to get a 285 or better. My ASTB was 7/7/7 but I don't think they ever told me the OAR or AOR whatever that is. Your PFT? Have you been studing the Arco or Cliff Notes books? Those books helped me out a lot. Good Luck

My first ASTB was a God awful 5/6/5 and 47 OAR. I get my latest scores on Monday, I retook it early this week on Wed. My self-PFT in March/early Apr was a 267, 20/100/23:35. I think I can realistically do a 275ish, 20/100/22:00, hopefully less on the run.

Ya, I used Arco, Cliff's, an ASVAB book, my University Physics book, and all the gouge material from this site. All was very helpful.

As it's been said before, the Cliff's ASTB book is trash. Throw it on the fire or use it for toilet paper.

You may want to ask your OSO for some clarification. Being the CO of OCS does not mean he decides who gets selected for OCS.

Ya, for the most part, you're right. I bought it simply for the math practice problems because they were different from Arco's. Other than that, it is pretty much trash.

You're probably right, but I wouldn't say that he isn't allowed some input. The point is that it's getting me to do what I need to...make myself as competitive as possible.
