Is the NAVY in demand for Supply Officers?

Is the navy in demand for supply officers? I heard from a couple of people that the Navy is always in need of supply officers. Is this rumor true?

#1 Navy is capitalized.

#2 The Navy (notice capital N) is in need of supply officers, hence, supply officers are in demand. You got it right on the second sentence so I know that you know better.

CDRsniper, your use of the ellipsis is gratuitous but you are right.

This is as of April. The OP status for May hasn't come out yet. Overall, we're overmanned by 8. 0-1's however are overmanned by 51.

Any possibility as to whether the Navy will cut selection quotas, make promotions more competitive, or both in the near future?

I haven't heard anything from my chain, but with the Navy and it's recent optimal manning concept, it's really up in the air.
 
I thought the Navy fills the supply slots with stash ensigns who crash their cars into houses out in Pensacola.
 
I've decided supply and procurement should not be a field for retards. Sending a stash there does not help. I know its tough to convince new officers that it is an essential job but maybe the recruiters should work on it. I'm glad some soon to be JO's (the interested parties on this thread) are enthusiastic about being a suppo. I would have put it in my top ten if I was a ground contract at TBS. The business experience is invaluable and easily applicable in the outside world... or so the salesman told me. Forcing some one to be a suppo will just result in bitterness, cynicism and inefficiency throughout the entire system.

Now for the rest of my rant. My experience thus far with the Navy supply system has been horrendous. As many of you who have recently come through API know, there is a severe shortage of flight suits, koch fittings (for the ejection seats), leather jackets, and several other vital pieces of gear. How does the supply system get so screwed up that it cannot issue a single flight suit to first time students? It's easy for me to blame the guy in the warehouse but the problem has to be higher up the chain. Any ideas what the problem is and what is being done to correct it?

Too bad you haven't seen the rest of the supply community, because from your post it sounds like one experience has jaded your entire point of view. As for the flight suit issue, tankers (and other fighters) in Iraq need the protection from burns more than the flight student who is in API.

As for the rest of the supply system, yes, sometimes it can be hard to get things pushed through, but the way the system is now is because of morons who abused it years ago. Having worked as a psuedo-suppo before, I can tell you that things are in place for a specific reason.
