I am a new ensign and just wondering if I will be allowed to fly on my on time when I go to Pensacola for flight school in October. I heard it might not be allowed because of ORM reasons.

I've never heard of it being prohibited.

Are you SNFO or SNA? Also are planning on doing this while waiting to start API?

I know it wasn't allowed while you were enrolled in IFS other than that I've never heard and prohibitions on it provided you fill out your ORM sheet saying you at least thought about the risks etc.

There was another thread about this recently, and I can't remember what the answer was. Seems like there was an issue while in API. I'd try a search or two.

Right and while you're at it, no scuba diving, swimming, driving a car, snow skiing, water skiing, jet skiing, hang gliding, skydiving, drinking, smoking, gettting laid.....in other words, don't plan on having any fun

I do remember. That was pretty funny. What an idiot. And if I recall, he was an SNFO. No surprise there I guess. :D

I was going through primary when that happened, I think ('98?); believe he was finally stopped by an AC unit on the roof if I remember.

Not sure if he continued flying, but that would be a crazy way to end your time at flight school. You don't want to be that guy!

I think it was '99. I didn't make it out to Pcola until then, and I think it happened while I was there.

I had a general aviation flight attrite work for me on the Stennis. He attrited from the H-60 FRS in SD for reasons unknown to me.

Comes into work on Monday with a good story...he ran out of fuel in a Piper Arrow in the pattern at night at Montgomery field and crashed just short of RWY 28. He changed his fuel tanks on the downwind and turned the selector to off "by accident."

Maybe there is a reason he wasn't in the H-60 FRS any more...

You might be able to fly civilian or not. But, I warn you. Please do not take your bad habits from civilian flying into the Navy training. Flying military aircraft is much different for some reason and all the people who I have had experience with that had large amounts of prior time turned out doing very poorly in the fleet. I don't know why. And please don't be the "so this one time in my 172" guy, because it doesn't apply. Good luck....
