Sarkozy Wins.......

you mean to tell me the female socialist lost?

I watched most of the debate the other day. Sarko so clearly schooled Royale, then toyed with her when she got flustered, saying that the president of France mustn't become emotional, etc. The subtext was clearly, "You're in over your head, baby." It will be interesting to see what develops, especially if his party wins a majority in next month's parliamentary elections. I think this bodes well for trans-Atlantic relations and he seems intent on reforming the French economy and labor practices (I.E. the disastrous 35 hour work week). He's marginally more pro-American than his predecessor and I've read he believes in increased cooperation and reconciliation in that area. Interesting times for the French to be sure. My dad must be pissed. :D

He's Hungarian heritage, yes??? I suppose his family came to France after 1956 ...??? Anyway ... I think ... I hope ... it might signal an improvement in Franco-Anglo-American relations.

Standing by for Muslim and delinquent "scum" (Sarkozy's term) rioting in the streets ... :)

His dad went to France after WWII and met his Mom, a Frenchwoman, when he was there. He later left his wife and kids and shacked up with another woman.......

I wonder what this says about the future of the EU, if France is going to focus more on internal rebuilding and international (US-France) relations, it seems to follow that the EU will no longer be an Anti-American bulwark.

Bright future for American influence in Europe, eh?

I wouldn't say that at all. Sarko's stated priority is continued EU integration, including working out some alternative for the EU constitution which the French people voted down a year or so ago. I wouldn't expect any big policy changes from the Europeans anytime soon. They still consider themselves a counterweight of sorts to US power and we still have some fairly fundamental political differences between us. I think this is a net plus for the French people though, as a socialist steer on their already hurting economy would be disastrous, IMO.
