I never saw any shows, but we did have Miss USA, Miss Teen USA, and Miss Panama come on our ship one day. Eh.

I also had Debbie Dunning and Diamond Dallas Page come visit the squadron one time. Debbie was doing alright for a 38 year-old mom of two.

We had Wayne Newton and a few of the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders come visit us on the LINCOLN when we were deployed past the time we were expected to be home. Hey, whatever.

The highlight of our trip was when President Bush came out for a vist via an S-3 off the coast of CA (San Diego) to give his infamous speech regarding the "End to MAJOR Combat Operations" in Iraq. Pretty neat. Got to meet the President's Press Secretary, Ari Fleischer and National Security Advisor, Condolezza Rice in the wardroom.

Other than that, Trace Adkins and I had to go head to head. Ok, so he's two feet taller than I am, so what. He thought he was tough sh!t walking down my P-way. I saw him come out of the wardroom so I pushed him against the bulkhead and was like wussup mutha fvcker? I told him, "Don't you move or I'll pull that girly braid right out of the back of your head." He submitted and said, "Sorry man, I was just passin' through. You Surface Warfare Officers are a force to be reckoned with. Let me get out of your way for you."

I haven't had any problems since.

Jessica Simpson came out to the TR during OEF. I remember hearing about her insisting they run everyone out of the smoke pit so she could have a cigarette in peace. I think the Miami Dolphins cheerleaders were also out there. During OIF I remember hearing about Dishwalla playing in the hangar bay, and there were a bunch of comics, wrestlers, etc.

Honestly, it seems that a lot of dough must go into entertaining deployed troops. I'd have been much more satisfied with a six pack and half a day off though.

Cheers/ Paul

Beer.....of which you can find in most countries. I think the only two I visited without it was Saudia and Oman. At least, it wasn't readily available. Met a hot Irish chick who ran underground clubs, serving alcohol in Saudia.

I think some entertainers do it because they feel a sense of duty to do their part (i.e. Trace Adkins, Martina McBride, Toby Keith, etc), and then some do it as part of their promotional tour.

Agreed, often times very well intended. However, you must bear in mind that the coming of any VIP to the good ship ROOSEVELT meant extra working parties and field day for young AT3 me. Later on, it meant supervising said working parties for AT2 me. I've never been a fan of huge crowds (particularly 5000 sweaty squids ogling one hot chick) so I usually opted to stay in the shop and work. There was a war to be won, dammit

Same thing I was thinking. Pretty sure punishable by death......making beer and having parties are definitely not worth your life. She was hot though :D

The coming of VIP's (DV's or Distinguished Visitors) to any ship means extra working parties. As far as supervising your people, well get used to it. It sucks, period. I'd rather be the one cleaning than the one who is supervising the cleaning.

As far as I know the USO operates without any government funding, all private and corporate donations along with volunteer time.
