I know its a long shot but has anyone heard of someone writing the white house to get an endorsement from the president? Cobngressmen do not write endorsements for ocs, only for the service academies. Any thoughts?
 
Why do you need an endorsement for OCS? I've never heard of that. I think the idea is for people who know you to write letters of recomendation.
 
I think you're grasping at straws.

From your profile, you're active duty. Before ever getting an endorsement on your submission from the President, you'd have to follow the chain of command. Lots of endorsement between you CO and the President......

Recommendations from officers that know you (O-3 and higher) should hold more weight than a basic letter from the President, unless the Pres knows you personally. Of course if you know him personally, have him call the Sec Def to call the board and get you a slot automatically :icon_tong

I worked for Senator Bob Graham's office (D-FL), and made my first application to OCS while there. I received a basic, he's a good guy, letter signed by my boss (the Constituent Liaison) instead of the Senator. I even was doing Charlie's job while he was on vacation, calling the Pentagon and VA for people, and only received a basic letter. Calling the big house was kind of cool, though...

Anyway, I digress. Have a couple department heads and Div-O's of O-3 and above do some write-ups for you, and ask to get an interview with at least one higher ranking officer (O-5 and above) in the areas you would lie eto apply.

Are you thinking of the VP and presidential nominations for the academies, perhaps? I know they each have a certain number, I think 5. Don't know the details. Not directly relevant to OCS, though.
 
Similar question for anyone willing to listen. I have an OCS package in, my Career counselor is holding it because my officer interviews were handwritten appraisals rather than typed. How much strength can my package loose with handwritten appraisals? I'm going for SWO, and Spec Ops, since my vision is too far off the scale for SNA.
 
I received a gleaming recommendation from a Congressman (JRep. ohn Mica, R-FL), who is also a family friend. However, as some have said before, you don't want to just "climb the totem" and get someone who signs a letter that is generic. Rather, you should get an LOR from someone that knows you personally and can vouch for your hard work ethic, character, etc. I'll also say that the LOR I received from the Congressman was well received by CNRC (so I am told), but did not go over so well with the OPO and the NRD.. Go figure!

Oh by the way, it's SpecWar for the Navy, and Special Operations (SpecOps) when it is jointly attached/detached with the USSOCOM.. :)

Might want to go back and do a little more research there. "SpecOps" is the term the Navy uses to identify the EOD community.

Yeah, I know.. Not just EOD, but also EOM, UMCM, and ODS, but as afar as recruiting goes, I was under the impression it all fell into Special Warfare.. Don't the EOD Officers have to become a SWO first anyway, do a tour, and then go to EOD school for a year?

They actually got rid of the SWO tour on the Sweaper for Specops. You now go straight to Dive school, then on to EOD school.
 
Do SEALS go to EOD training as well, or just BUDS? I'm confused - is it possible that EOD (SpecOps guys)/UMCM can be detached/attached with SEAL teams, or are the SEALS themselves trained in EOD/EOM? I've always seen SEAL team rosters and communities and seen EOD beside their names, but didn't think that they could be cross-trained..
 
is this for real? an endorsement from the president? people seem to be taking it seriously, but WTF? am i missing something? the guy has a pretty busy schedule you know, or so it seems. :confused:
