There was an officer candidate just NPQ'd one week before his commissioning from the PLC program. The anthro measurement was the sitting height, he was 39.7 in. and the OSO was weirded out because the info they had said you just needed to be under 41 in. and you were ok. The link Feddoc shared says on sitting height you need to be under 39.5 in. to fit the TH-57 and under 39 in. to fit the T-45, so I guess that answers that question. Weird that you have to be two inches shorter to fit in the jet trainer then you have to be able to fit in an F-18. A trainer that is shorter than a fleet aircraft??? Does that make sense to anyone??

I believe the TA-4 was notorious for this as well. I think specific anthro characteristics of a jet are the last thing on anyone's mind when an aircraft is procured, so long as they are reasonable. What's it all about? $$$$$ . . . or politics in the case of the Goshawk. This is the same Navy that built the E-2/C-2 WITHOUT counter-rotating props so they could save money on gearboxes and swap more engines.

Whoa...good thing I had a recent haircut for my anthros at NAMI that day...I was 38 inches. (just incase i get the honor to go that route )

I believe the TA-4 was notorious for this as well....

ACTUALLY ... the T-Bird cockpit was positively roomy and luxurious --- compared to it's single-seat sibling. And inch here and another there makes a big difference. The only problem we ever experienced was in the TRACOM when deciding who would go to Kingsville and who would go to Beeville with the advent of the TA-4 coming on line. The taller sitting height guys got the TA-4, the shorter guys got the TF-9.

But the Fleet? In the days prior to anything "anthro" --- it seemed like the Navy and Marines, in all their infinite wisdom, usually solved the problem by putting the really big guys in the A-4 and the really little guys in the F-4. Just to fool everyone.

I know I'm exaggerating ... it just seemed like there was no commonality -- matching a/c type with pilot sitting height --- with the rest of the gaggle. And all the rest of the gaggle went into the A-6, the F-8, the A-5 or the A-7 (just talkin' Jets, here, boys) ... with no anthro measurements.

God, wasn't it GREAT to have so many choices ... ???? Wouldn't it be today ???

Which, once again, has zero to do with whether you'll be "good" or not.

I'm 6-6 and about 185, waaayy, on the 'skinny' side, I've never had an anthro measurement, but would be DQ'd, just generally speaking from experience, which I have none, so that's why I'm asking, please!

Gotta have the anthros to really know.

A recruiter will make you take the ASTB before they'll measure you, though. And those measurement's definitly aren't the final official ones.

^ and the ladies! Lets go the other direction. I am 5'3, about 128lbs...SOMEHOW I passed my commissioning flight physical even though I really didn't think I would. I am still freaking out that shi** is gonna hit the fan when/if I get to Pcola. Any of you know any little pilots because I am very happy to use a butt cushion or even some platform boots! haha seriously though...=)

All you guys can do is go off the anthro measurements listed in by NAMI. You can't go off what other people do or do not do. The chair is the most accurate way to do it, but if you don't have access, have someone measure all your parts, as per the NAMI numbers.

T-45 Requirements

Sitting Height: 32" to 38.9"
Buttock-Knee Length: 21" to 26.4"
Functional Reach: >28.5"

Prowler Requirements

Sitting Height: 32" to 37.4"
Buttock-Knee Length: 21" to 28.4"
Functional Reach: >28.5"

As someone previously said, if you fit in the T-45, you'll be able to fit in the Hornet.
