Two oil tankers hit in Gulf of Oman

No offense, but have you been asleep since last January?

There is no idea that is too crazy or too circular-firing-squad for the current administration to implement.

I wouldn't put it past the current administration but apparently they got significant pushback from oil companies who stand to lose a lot of $ if that is implemented.

@Flash I was on the Fifth Fleet Mine Warfare Task Force when I posted that. The only thing it got wrong was it ending quickly. Instead we're in locked in this protracted conflict.

For a theoretical conflict they got a lot of things right, much more than the usual postulating about such things.

And the war continues, kinda, with 8 Marines injured in an Iranian attack on a 'non-commissioned commercial vessel' on 14 September.

We kidnapped Maduro and the DoD is funding part of our nationalization of Venezuela's oil reserves. I wouldn't take anything off the table..
This is the worse part. Had Trump allowed elections and set Venezuela on a good path he might have earned some good will, but he simply made the kind of Banana Republic money grab that fueled Smedley Butler’s protests.

It's happening.

I say again, it's happening...

In regards to the Marines, a MEU has a battalion of infantry with maybe a platoon of tanks, a single battery of artillery and 30 days worth of supplies. Combined with President Trump’s history of using airpower, not ground troops, this looks like a normal rotation of forces more than any type of surge.

"The United States is executing a major naval buildup in West Asia, deploying the USS Theodore Roosevelt carrier strike group and the USS Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group to the region. This deployment adds approximately 9,000 sailors and Marines to the theater, positioning up to three U.S. aircraft carriers near Iran by late October or November 2026.
The escalation coincides with warnings from President Donald Trump regarding potential renewed military strikes against Iran following the November U.S. midterm elections."

More airstrikes? Always a possibility - but if you are discussing ground forces, a MEU (or more likely 2) might be used to attack Kharg Island. However, I don’t see anything on the scale of Iraq or Afghanistan.

Buildup or just normal rotation of forces? We have don’t this song and dance every time a CSG/ARG has been rotated in or out.

Not saying they won’t escalate again, but this seems like a normal rotation and every time we have gotten close to going back to full scale strikes since the ceasefire Trump has chickened out.

Whom are you quoting?

Would you prefer full scale strikes?

Now that we are here, good question on what the best course of action is, although my bet is on limited strikes and a blockade of Iranian oil exports. One of the results of this is certainly going to be a long term increase in the price of oil and LNG due to risks and insurance.

Late edit: Looks like Iran’s oil minister has resigned and been replaced by the head of their national oil company.

According to many industry sources the flow of oil in the area is back up to 98%, so I’d the blockade/escort system is working. It certainly blunts Iran’s sea denial strategy but it waits to be seen if will collapse their economy.
