It shouldn't intuitively surprise you that people normally work in lower level administration roles before being appointed to cabinet secretary or running for VP.

Trump wanted to get new blood even in his first term and then took it upon himself to purge the GOP after McCain's nay vote re: ACA repeal. It'll be interesting to see if that old guard comes back after Trump's term, especially after they endorsed Harris for president last election cycle.

How is this in any way indicative of getting off to a good start? Dude gives boilerplate speech to troops that any Navy O6 should be able to do in their sleep with zero prep. Let's see what he can deliver before queueing up to give him a hand job.
 
Great comments here from SECWAR. The most ridiculous comment I heard while on AD was “Mission First, People Always.” Really, people will ALWAYS trump the mission? The DOW is on the right track here . . .
