OCS Time removed from prior drug use?

Hey all,

I'm new to this and have searched around, but am struggling to find a situations that closely match mine. Trying to get a sense of my prior experimental drug use would DQ me from aviation. I don't want to not disclose this, and risk is causing issues for security clearences down the line.

I used marijuana at most once a month in college, and a handful of times since. Haven't used it in 6 months. I also tried LSD and psilocybin twice in college, as well as cocaine once.

I graduated in 2019, so I'm now 5-6 years removed from any of the non marijuana stuff. I expect this to be my only red flag. Does this time gap play any factor? I'd appreciate any insight, thank you in advance.

You need to disclose drug use, no exceptions. If you are even considering lying in order to try to join, who knows what else you are capable of lying and cheating once you’re in.

People have died by simply lying.

Lying is off the table, I'm not considering that. I'm only trying to see if this is a viable path for me, or if another role in the navy should be my priority.

You miss 100% of the shots you don't take. To say anything more would be speculative.

Good luck!

Do report back what happens though- it might be useful information, this question comes up from time to time.

Nothing is black and white. Use common sense. "Figuring things out for yourself is one of the only freedoms we have left".

Other than that, there is ZERO guidance for you on here, man.

I guess I really don't understand your dislike of my post...why do you give a shit if the dude signing for the aircraft ate a magic mushroom 8 years ago in college? If the powers that be waiver that conduct, and he completes OCS, flight training, FRS, why would you care? Genuinely curious.

JTS11, does this sound like someone with sound decision making skills? Someone who respects rules and regulations? I'm guessing that the powers that be don't waive the conduct. Probably for the same reason that I expressed above.

Would I ever know if a guy like this got a waiver and made it all the way through and is in my squadron? Probably not unless he told me, so I'll keep flying with who I'm told to, and hope that the powers that be keep the standards high, even in a difficult recruiting environment. 🤷‍♂️

That's fair. I'd argue that if it's waiverable, it's not a Scarlet Letter...

I'm obviously not advocating this conduct...just saying that after all the hoops they would have gone through by that point, I'd have zero concern flying with them.

More to the point, we’ve probably all flown with- or been flown around by- multiple pilots who have used illegal drugs in the past and not reported it (or even lied about it) so there’s that.

I took the original comment as a joke.

Are acid flashbacks not a thing? I wouldn’t want to fly with an individual that has the potential to get high at an uncontrollable time
I dunno. Hopefully, these people that approve waivers know what they're doing...

When I had flashbacks in Primary, I'd just concentrate on Tail-Radial-Turn,.. Flop/Chop/Check/Drop and stuff like that. 😆
