Does the Navy have a shiny pilot training program like USAF's UPT 2.5?

I just watched this video about the new USAF pilot training program and wondered how the Navy's compares to this. Is the Navy embracing VR/sim but hasn't publicized it? Is the Navy rejecting these new methodologies? Or doesn't have the budget for it? I'm in the application process for SNA but after watching this video, which admittedly feels like an ad, I'm wondering if the grass is greener. Surely other prospective candidates are wondering the same.

And if youtube links get blocked then just search "Inside the Air Force's Next-Generation of Pilot Training" from Jun 3, 2021

1. Yes. Search the forum or do a Google search, there are a couple of programs out there right now. The aircraft in the videos are also literally USN T-6Bs.

2. If you are so interested in VR/sims, go fly for the Air Force. The point of this job is to fly, not sit in a sim wearing VR goggles.

Keep in mind the Air Force is rolling out these slick new ads to attract talent because they have a huge pilot shortage. Regardless of which you want to apply for, both will teach you to fly. Fundamentally, flying is flying. Don't let the Air Force's slick ad campaign lead you to believe their program is something that it's not. And, one thing I gleaned when applying for the Navy and considering other branches, the Air Force puts a lot more money into shiny and slick ads, and feel good social media posts. So, take it with a grain of salt.

You are way too young and naive to know anything about greener grass. You’ll have a better idea about that once you get another 6 years in or so.

The grass very well may be greener. However programs like this are about cost savings and time to train, not producing a better product (although they’ll claim that too).

If you look through the Chief of Naval Air Training website you can find some information regarding Naval Aviation Training Next- Project Avenger, it appears to be a bit similar to what the air force is trying to implement, but I haven't heard much about it.

think the human performance stuff is way overdue
You spelled overrated wrong. Breakthroughs in human performance in aviation aren’t going to come from VR goggles attached to a flight sim. Optimized CVI and training methods are where those potentials will be realized.

I feel like a broken record right now-

The knowledge and skill may come quicker, but we've yet to find a faster way to train an aviator to the proper attitude to be ready to fly an airplane in the fleet.

You missed my point - the cognitive and athletic training is what I was highlighting as being way overdue. That's the innovation in AF UPT. The AR stuff is fluff - and it has yet to see gains at the AF Formal Training Units. We'll see of course over time, because AF Research Lab has a ton of funding to keep this going and going.

Innovative training devices make sense. @Python1287 showed us the gaming laptop setup at the F-35 school house for learning the HOTAS. Things like this pay off.

Desktop trainers to learn HOTAS aren't new. What is this cognitive and athletic training you speak of?
