If memory serves me right, the major difference is the P3's reduction gearbox was rotated 180 degrees to minimize sea water ingestion.

Think it was a fod thing. Turbo-props don't care as long as they are plumed for it.

The Navy went to that paint scheme about 9 years ago after an Irish anti-war protestor took a hatchet to nose of one of our planes in EINN. Now everyone thinks they are extraordinary rendition planes.
