Looks like Bell has a competitor to Sikorsky's S-97 in the scout helicopter market: the 360 Invictus. It has got a 3,000 HP GE turbine + some type of supplemental power unit, a derivative of the 525 rotor system which is capable of 200+ knots and wings to offload the main rotor at high speed. Will be curious to see what kind of speed and range Bell is going to be able to achieve.

Bell Unveils Future Attack Reconnaissance Aircraft (FARA) Design

Bell Aircraft features include a cruise speed greater than 185 knots, a combat radius of 135 nm with greater than 90 minutes time on station, and the ability to hover out of ground effect (HOGE) at altitudes of 4,000 feet in 95 degree F temperatures. Other attributes include a lift-sharing fixed wing, a supplemental power unit to increase power during times of high demand, fly-by-wire flight controls, ducted tail rotor, and an articulating main rotor with high flapping capability to enable high speed flight.

Will this be the Comanche all over again? The Comanche was pretty pricey and this one looks pricey too.

Honestly I see the opposite. They're taking a bunch of the kit off the 525 that's already been developed. I'm intrigued as to the "supplemental power unit" but...? The choice of a single, big engine is also interesting.

Possibly a new contender for one of the FVL categories: caught my eye when I saw Scaled Composites was part of the program.

Gyronautics company Skyworks is teaming up with Northrop Grumman subsidiary Scaled Composites to build a prototype of its VertiJet vertical-takeoff-and-landing aircraft, the companies announced Monday. The VertiJet will have an estimated top speed of 400 mph with a range of 1,000 nm

They’ve missed the boat for medium lift (FLRAA) and scout (FARA). The contenders for those have already been named. Don’t know where they’d fit in.

It’s likely to be the least pricy. Look at the all new and unconventional designs some of the competitors are doing. If you can make KPPs without inventing warp drive, you should.

An article on the Comanche resemblance.

Looks ain't everything, the ARH-70 looked a lot like the OH-58 but became yet another expensive debacle in the end.
